Veteran Bui Huu Trieu takes care of colorful foliage plants to plant along the roads. |
We visited the home of veteran Bui Huu Trieu, just when he was taking care of the colorful foliage plants to prepare for planting on the new rural roads. Uncle Trieu said that after launching the Environmental Protection Club, he encouraged his brothers to plant a 1,500-meter-long flower road, with more than 700 cotton trees, yellow apricot trees, colorful foliage trees...
He himself has planted more than 100 cotton trees on the flower road managed by the Veterans Association. Every week, he cleans, trims trees, sprays weed killer, and buys watering pumps. Thanks to that, the road has become green - clean - beautiful, supported by the people and the province. In addition, he also helps clean 2 roads managed by the Farmers' Association and Road 28C.
As a former soldier, trained in the spirit of “not being arrogant in victory, not being discouraged in defeat”, Uncle Trieu always strives to overcome difficulties and develop the family economy . He has boldly renovated the mixed garden and changed the crop structure.
Currently, he has nearly 1 hectare of dragon fruit, which annually brings in hundreds of millions of dong in profit. Not only does he develop his family's economy, Mr. Trieu also regularly shares farming and livestock farming techniques, and provides plants and seedlings to other veterans and farmers in need. Mr. Trieu is passionate: "Sacrificing a little personal interest for the common good of the locality is what a citizen should do. Moreover, as a veteran, I clearly identify my pioneering and exemplary role in participating in local movements and activities."
When leaving the army and returning to civilian life, facing difficult circumstances, veteran Mai Van Nhan thought that even though he had fields and gardens, if he did not work hard, poverty would still follow. Thinking so, he told himself that he had to work hard, rise up in life with his own strength and thinking; take advantage of and promote available means of production to change his family's life.
That thought motivated him to work harder in the hope of increasing his income so that his children could go to school and that life would be less difficult. He began to grow rice, raise cows, and do many jobs for hire. Thanks to his diligence, thrift, and thrift, his family's life gradually stabilized.
Implementing the province's policy on restructuring the agricultural sector, converting production from ineffective rice fields to valuable fruit trees, he converted 5 hectares of rice fields to dragon fruit. Currently, although he is 70 years old, he still directly works in production, actively contributing to the development of the locality.
The My An B Hamlet Veterans Association currently has 24 active members, all of whom are exemplary members. Every year on the holidays of December 22, April 30, and September 2, the veterans in the association are living witnesses participating in more than 20 traditional talks for teachers and students at Tinh Ha Secondary School. In the field of security and order (SOC), the association has built a model of "SOC participating in maintaining SOC". The model has done a good job of reporting and reflecting the situation.
All cases of insecurity in the area are provided by the association to the police for timely handling. At the same time, the association participates in reconciling land disputes and conflicts among the people, contributing to building a strong hamlet in terms of security and order.
The association regularly visits sick and ill members and those in difficult circumstances to provide timely encouragement. Officials and members actively participate in campaigns and movements launched by the locality such as contributing funds to build roads, concrete roads, and install lighting systems on roads in residential areas.
In addition, charitable activities, contributions to funds such as “For the poor”, “Repaying gratitude”, “Helping children go to school” funds, etc. are always enthusiastically responded to by members. Every year, 100% of member families are recognized as cultural families, 100% of members are recognized as exemplary members.
Head of the My An B Hamlet Veterans Association, Truong Van Doi, said: “In the Association’s activities, we always closely follow the resolutions of the Party Committee, the instructions of the higher-level Association, and encourage members to actively participate in emulation movements launched by the locality and Associations at all levels. In the movements, we always encourage members to be exemplary and proactive in mobilizing people to participate. Over time, the Veterans have gained the trust of the people in the hamlet and commune.”
