Speaking at the opening ceremony of the training course, Prof. Dr. Le Van Loi, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, Head of the Human RightsEducation Project, said that respecting, protecting and implementing human rights has always been of great concern to the Party, the State and the People in all fields. Human rights education plays a particularly important role in raising social awareness, helping to prevent and limit rights violations, providing knowledge, equipping skills, strengthening beliefs, helping each person to correctly perceive the meaning and value of rights, knowing how to protect their own rights, obeying the law and respecting the dignity, rights and freedoms of others.

“Media and press institutions play a very important role in protecting, ensuring and promoting human rights through methods such as: communicating and orienting public opinion on human rights; being a forum for people's freedom of speech; providing and ensuring access to information; detecting and condemning acts of human rights violations; setting examples in the fight to protect human rights; fighting against erroneous and hostile views in the field of human rights... To perform these tasks well, reporters and editors of press agencies must have a firm grasp of theoretical, legal and practical issues on human rights,” emphasized Prof. Dr. Le Van Loi.

At the training course, the trainees were updated by lecturers and experts from the Institute of Human Rights - Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics and the Ministry of Information and Communications on many contents such as: General overview of human rights; international law on human rights and press freedom; Vietnamese law on human rights and press freedom; achievements in ensuring human rights in the renovation period and promoting the role of media and press in the field of human rights in Vietnam; international mechanisms on protecting and promoting human rights and implementing recommendations of the Human Rights Council under the UPR, cycle IV in Vietnam; roles and responsibilities of media and press agencies in protecting human rights in the new situation.
