Putting AI into action, not just learning for the sake of knowing
Identifying the need to do a good job of gathering and uniting members of the Association and journalists in the province, in recent times, the Bac Kan Provincial Journalists Association has regularly organized training and coaching sessions to build a team of members and journalists with strong political qualifications and good professional skills. Helping members master technology and use technology in general and AI application software in particular.
Recently, the Bac Kan Provincial Journalists Association organized a training course for members to improve their professional skills, keep up with the requirements of the 4.0 era and readers' need to access information, and apply information technology well, focusing on instructing members on how to use AI.

In order for members to move from learning to direct application in daily operations, journalist Luc Dai Luong - Deputy Director of Bac Kan Provincial Radio and Television Station, Chairman of the Provincial Journalists Association said that, based on the collection of members' comments, the Provincial Journalists Association has developed a plan and coordinated with the Center for Journalism Training to organize training on skills in exploiting and transmitting information on social networking platforms, how to use AI in producing news articles and videos.
The course has equipped members, editors, reporters, and technicians of press agencies in the province with skills to apply artificial intelligence in their work. At the same time, it promotes the exploration and research of applying artificial intelligence in the professional activities of press agencies, contributing to improving work productivity, optimizing work processes, and creating press works.
In addition to exchanging, discussing the current situation, sharing experiences on exploiting and transmitting information on social networking platforms, and how to use AI, students can practice right in the classroom to help resolve questions and confusion during the learning process while promoting their strengths when applying AI to work.
“With the content appealing to members, in general, members are excited and apply it to their work at their agencies and units. There may be few students in the class and the members who apply it in practice may only be limited to some basic content of the program. However, I hope that this small number of members will return to impart and spread the knowledge and skills to many other members in their units’ editorial offices. In addition, members who attend the course can also return to advise their agencies and units to implement in the future,” shared journalist Luc Dai Luong.
AI and social activities
Not only in the Northern provinces, but also in many Journalists Associations in the Southern provinces, the exchange and sharing of content on how to apply artificial intelligence in creating journalistic works by the Provincial Journalists Associations is also implemented by each branch and many members. From members hearing and watching a lot about AI applications through seminars and conferences of the Vietnam Journalists Association, now members can directly participate in training courses on AI technology. Thereby, members not only understand more about the long-term benefits of AI but can also apply it in their daily working life.

In Lam Dong province, in December 2023, the Vietnam Journalists Association of Lam Dong province organized a training course on AI in creating journalistic works. Here, trainees learned and learned how to apply this technology in journalism, using AI tools to collect and analyze data, create high-quality content and increase efficiency in information distribution. In addition, the training content also focused on assessing the impact of AI on the journalism industry and the role of journalists in the digital age.
In addition, there is a content in the class that students can always apply, which is using AI to build scripts, edit documents, and build outlines for a topic that journalists want to develop. With the suggestions and support provided by AI, reporters can save time and effort.
Journalist Le Van Toa - Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association of Lam Dong province said: “It can be said that this is one of the most effective classes compared to the classes that the Provincial Journalists Association has coordinated to implement. The selection of lecturers with well-prepared learning content also increases the effectiveness. After finishing the course, the students immediately apply the skills they have learned. In addition to members in newspapers and radio stations, even members who are active in the Association's Office Journalists Association in the process of working and writing news and articles have also applied AI to professional activities, contributing to improving the quality of the association's activities."
According to the plan from now until the end of 2024, the Lam Dong Provincial Journalists Association will register with the Center for Journalism Training to organize about 4 training courses, in which the main content is to continue applying artificial intelligence in operational activities. Journalist Le Van Toa added: We will continue to open training courses on AI application, but will link AI with the content of protecting the Party's ideological foundation, to write articles and reports on this topic. The Provincial Journalists Association will develop a plan, list the number of members attending, and select lecturers. All to take advantage of the benefits that AI brings, contributing to making this journalism field, which is considered "difficult - dry - miserable", lively and attractive. Try to combine modernity with tradition.
It is known that with the spirit of innovation, creativity, and application of AI in journalistic activities and creation will be one of the topics that the Lam Dong Provincial Journalists Association will implement in 2024. It can be affirmed that in the process of innovation and self-affirmation, Vietnamese journalists always maintain a spirit of quick adaptation to work in the digital age. Reality in localities shows that the application of AI has gradually entered the life of journalism, and is being utilized by journalist members.
However, in any circumstance, no matter how technology develops, journalists always determine that AI is only a support, a tool. Maintain the creation of journalistic works and products according to the principles of the profession. The important thing is that journalists still demonstrate their pioneering role, they always research, create, dive into reality at the grassroots, create journalistic works that are attractive, sharp and convincing.
