Mr. D.M.D. (53 years old) was traveling with his family in Phu Quoc when he experienced severe headaches, dizziness, vomiting, difficulty speaking, and decreased contact. Upon admission to Vinmec Phu Quoc Hospital, MRI results revealed a meningioma in the left parietal region, measuring 4x6x5cm - a large tumor that compressed brain tissue, potentially causing serious nerve damage if not operated on promptly.

Although they were on the island, the family decided to have surgery right at Vinmec Phu Quoc after receiving careful advice from the medical team. The surgery lasted more than 5 hours and successfully removed the entire tumor, controlled bleeding well and preserved the functional brain areas.

After surgery, the patient was alert, responsive, and showed no signs of nerve damage. The post-operative process went smoothly under the close supervision of the resuscitation and nursing team. “I feel fine now, I am very happy, my physical condition recovered very quickly,” Mr. D. happily shared just 1 day after surgery.

The surgery was performed using the classic neurosurgical technique of meningioma enucleation, requiring meticulousness and high precision to remove the tumor while preserving maximum healthy brain tissue.

According to Master, Doctor Hoang Nguyen Nhat Tan, a neurosurgeon at Vinmec Phu Quoc, with brain tumor cases, the important thing is not only to remove the tumor, but also to ensure absolute safety for the patient, minimizing neurological sequelae.

"What worries us the most is how to treat patients promptly on the spot, without having to transfer them to a distant hospital in an emergency. When the surgery ends successfully, the patient is awake, can talk and has no sequelae," Dr. Tan shared.

The surgery marks an important step forward in the capacity to treat neurosurgical diseases in Phu Quoc. The successful implementation of specialized surgeries such as brain tumor removal right in Phu Quoc shows that the medical capacity on the island has been significantly improved, ready to respond to complex emergency situations without the need for long-distance transfers. This not only helps residents and tourists access timely and safe treatment, but also contributes to improving the quality of comprehensive medical care right in the locality.

In the context of Phu Quoc tourism booming again and heading towards APEC 2027, the ability to provide high-quality emergency and on-site treatment is a guarantee for the trust and safety of millions of tourists each year.
