China's gaming industry is on the rise
China's National Press and Publication Administration (NPAA), known for its strict censorship policies, made a significant change in 2024. According to statistics, the NPAA approved a total of 1,416 game titles, marking the highest number since 2019.
Of these, 1,306 titles came from domestic developers, reflecting the remarkable growth of the Chinese gaming industry. The number of licensed foreign games also increased to 110, compared to 98 in 2023.
This move is seen as a positive signal that the Chinese government is loosening control over the gaming market, creating favorable conditions for the industry's development.
However, the NPAA still maintains strict regulations on content and age restrictions. Players under 18 are only allowed to play games between 8pm and 9pm on weekends and holidays.
This 'unleashing' is expected to further boost the Chinese gaming market - the world's second largest - especially in the context of a 7% increase in game sales in China and the successful launch of Black Myth: Wukong - the first AAA game produced in China.
With these positive signs, the Chinese gaming industry is on the road to recovery and promises a bright future.
