As the free period for Samsung's Galaxy AI service nears its end, the tech world is awaiting the official announcement of the transition to a paid model at the Galaxy Unpacked event, scheduled to take place in the US in July.

Currently, Galaxy AI is being offered free of charge on eligible Samsung smartphones until the end of 2025. This phrase is highlighted in the product information on Samsung's official website for the recently launched Galaxy S25 Edge, and it also previously appeared on the Galaxy S24 product page.

This is seen as a clear signal that Samsung is preparing to charge for AI services in the near future.

Launched in January 2024, Galaxy AI is Samsung's first in-device, cloud-based artificial intelligence system, combining on-device processing and cloud computing. This service offers features such as real-time translation, content summarization, image editing, and advanced search. Galaxy AI is considered a key factor in Samsung positioning its flagship models as "AI phones."

The Galaxy S24, the first device to integrate Galaxy AI, generated significant interest and achieved record-breaking pre-sales of 1.3 million units. The Galaxy S25 continues this trend, becoming the platform for Samsung to further expand its AI ecosystem. In this context, charging for Galaxy AI is seen as a necessary step to maintain and expand the service.

“We will offer Galaxy AI for free until the end of 2025. After that, Samsung will make a decision after considering customer needs and business conditions,” Roh Tae-moon, President and Head of Device Experience at Samsung, stated at the Galaxy Unpacked 2023 event.

Some experts predict that Samsung will announce specific policies regarding its pricing model in Q3 2025. Accordingly, the South Korean tech giant may adopt diverse models such as subscription-based pricing, offering basic features for free and charging for advanced functions that require significant processing resources. The possibility of implementing promotional programs, free trials, or special offers is also being considered to minimize negative user reactions.
