Phi Hoang and U23 Vietnam are determined to defend their championship title in the U23 Southeast Asia. |
“Every time I am called up, my team and I set the highest goal of winning the championship. This is the second time I have had the opportunity to participate and my spirit remains unchanged. The whole team will try our best to bring glory to the Fatherland,” Nguyen Phi Hoang told the media before the afternoon training session of July 17 of U23 Vietnam.
According to Phi Hoang, U23 Vietnam is preparing carefully for the opening match against U23 Laos on July 19. He assessed that integration and cohesion within the team are important factors to achieve success in this tournament.
“Each tournament has its own characteristics, but the whole team has improved every year. I believe the whole team will maintain the highest concentration and fighting spirit through each match,” the player from Da Nang emphasized.
Regarding the personnel change close to the match day, Phi Hoang said the whole team regretted that striker Nguyen Thanh Nhan could not join due to an ankle ligament injury. Replacing him was young midfielder Le Van Thuan, who had been called up to prepare for the tournament.
“Thanh Nhan is a very important factor. I wish him a speedy recovery and a quick return. Van Thuan is a potential player. I believe that with good integration, Van Thuan can also play an important role in the team," Phi Hoang said.
In the first match of Group B, Cambodia and Laos drew 1-1. This gives U23 Vietnam an advantage if they win all 3 points on the opening day to quickly create an advantage in the race for a ticket to the semi-finals.
