Eddie Peng, who plays Lang in the film Black Dog directed by Guan Hu, attended the 2024 Cannes Film Festival with his hunting dog Xin.

The film is a mix of Western noir and comedy with a very lovable dog at its center. The film tells the story of Lang, a lonely and broken man who returns to his hometown after serving time in prison and sympathizes with an equally tired hunting dog. The film beat 17 other films to win the top prize in the second most prestigious Un Certain Regard category of the Cannes Film Festival.
The Jury Prize in the Un Certain Regard category went to the French film The Story of Souleymane, directed by Boris Lojkine. The moving social drama chronicles the struggles of Souleymane , a Guinean migrant cyclist who travels to Paris and prepares for an asylum interview. The lead role of Souleymane was played by actor Abou Sangare, who won the Jury Prize for acting. Lojkine's film won the most awards of the night.

The Best Director award was given to both Italy's Roberto Minervini for The Damned and Rungano Nyoni (a Zambian of Welsh descent) for On Become a Guinea Fowl .
The film Viet and Nam (titled Viet Trong Dat ) by Truong Minh Quy "lost everything" in the Un Certain Regard category this year.
The main award - the Palme d'Or - of the Cannes Film Festival will be awarded on the evening of May 25 (French time).
