Low pressure area is strengthening in the East Sea

(PLVN) - In the next 24 hours, the low pressure area in the East Sea is likely to strengthen into a tropical depression.

On the morning of June 24, the low pressure trough with its axis at about 14-17 degrees North latitude connected to a low pressure area over the North and Central East Sea. At 07:00 on June 24, the low pressure area was located at about 14.5-15.5 degrees North latitude; 117.5-118.5 degrees East longitude.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting predicts that in the next 24 hours, the low pressure area will move slowly to the Northwest and is likely to strengthen into a tropical depression.

During the day and night of June 24, the eastern sea area of ​​the North East Sea, the central and southern East Sea areas (including the waters of the Truong Sa archipelago), the sea area from Binh Thuan to Ca Mau, Ca Mau to Kien Giang and the Gulf of Thailand will have showers and thunderstorms.

During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, strong winds of level 6-7 and waves over 2.0m high. The sea area from Binh Thuan to Ca Mau has strong southwest winds of level 5, sometimes level 6, gusting to level 7; waves from 1.5-2.5m high; rough seas.

All vessels operating in the above areas are at high risk of being affected by tornadoes, strong winds and large waves.

Regarding the weather on land, the Hydrometeorological Agency forecasts that on the day and night of June 24, in the Northwest and Viet Bac regions, there will be scattered showers and thunderstorms, locally heavy rain with rainfall from 15-30mm, locally over 80mm (rain concentrated in the evening and at night).

In the afternoon and evening of June 24, in the Central Highlands and the South, there will be scattered showers and thunderstorms, locally heavy rain with rainfall of 10-30mm, locally over 60mm.

Thunderstorms may produce tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind. Localized heavy rains may cause flash floods on small rivers and streams, landslides on steep slopes and flooding in low-lying areas.
