Last night and this morning, moderate to heavy rains occurred in the mountainous and midland provinces of the North. From 7:00 p.m. on June 20 until now, the rainfall has been from 30-80mm, with heavy to very heavy rains in Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang, and Bac Kan provinces, with rainfall ranging from 100-200mm, and over 200mm in some places. By 2-4:00 p.m. today, the rain has spread to Lang Son, Bac Giang , Bac Ninh, and Hung Yen provinces.

According to Mr. Vu Anh Tuan, Deputy Head of Weather Forecast Department, National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, Department of Hydro-Meteorology, Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, tonight, June 21 and tomorrow, the Northern region will continue to have moderate rain, heavy rain, and locally very heavy rain.

Specifically, the mountainous and midland areas of the North have moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms, locally very heavy rain with common rainfall from 40-100mm, locally over 250mm. Warning of the risk of local heavy rain (>100mm/3h). The Northern Delta has local heavy rain with rainfall over 50mm.

The cause of this rain, Mr. Tuan explained, was a low pressure trough operating in the southern region of China. Yesterday and this morning, this low pressure trough moved south, combined with wind convergence at 3,000-5,000m and a low vortex in the northern region, causing rain in the northern provinces of our country.

In the afternoon and evening of June 21, the Southern Central Highlands and the Southern region will have rain, moderate rain and scattered thunderstorms, locally heavy to very heavy rain with rainfall from 20-40mm, locally over 80mm. The Northern Central Highlands will have scattered showers and thunderstorms, locally heavy rain with rainfall from 10-30mm, locally over 60mm. Rain will be concentrated in the afternoon and evening.

Thunderstorms may cause tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind. Heavy rains may also cause flooding in low-lying areas, urban and industrial areas; flash floods in small rivers and streams; and landslides on steep slopes.

From June 23, heavy rain in the mountainous and midland areas of the North will gradually decrease.
