Today, June 24, the High People's Court in Ho Chi Minh City opened an appeal hearing to consider the appeals of the parties in the case of "dispute over inheritance, request to cancel individual decisions and demand a house for temporary residence" between the plaintiff, Ms. Vo Thi Hong Nhung (younger sister of the late Meritorious Artist Vu Linh) and the defendant, Ms. Vo Thi Hong Loan (daughter of the late Meritorious Artist Vu Linh).

At the trial this morning, the plaintiff, Ms. Vo Thi Hong Nhung, the defendant, Ms. Vo Thi Hong Loan, and a number of people with related rights and obligations were present in court.

In the procedural part, according to the secretary's report, Mr. Vo Thanh Nhieu (the person with related rights and obligations, who filed an appeal) and his authorized representative were absent. Some other people with related rights and obligations, including: Huynh Thi Ngoc Yen Notary Office (Ward 14, Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City) and Phu Nhuan District People's Committee... were absent.

According to the representative of the High-level People's Procuracy in Ho Chi Minh City, the first trial was opened, because a person with related rights and obligations was absent, so the panel of judges requested to postpone the trial. The lawyer protecting the legal rights and interests of Ms. Hong Loan stated that Mr. Vo Thanh Nhieu was absent without reason for the first time, so according to regulations, the trial must be postponed; the Notary Office and the People's Committee of Phu Nhuan District had submitted a request for a trial in absentia. Ms. Hong Loan had no opinion and requested the panel of judges to consider according to regulations.

Meanwhile, Ms. Vo Thi Hong Nhung stated that Mr. Vo Thanh Nhieu has not yet received an invitation from the court. The lawyer protecting Ms. Hong Nhung’s legal rights and interests said that Ms. Nhung has submitted a request for re-examination of Vu Linh’s signature on related documents. Ms. Nhung has submitted the request with evidence but the appellate court has not yet considered and resolved it.

After an on-site consultation, the panel of judges decided on a trial, and the retrial date will be set later. Regarding the request to re-examine the signature of the late Meritorious Artist Vu Linh, the presiding judge said it would be considered during the adjournment of the trial.

What did Hong Phuong and Hong Loan say when the trial was postponed?

Speaking to Thanh Nien , Hong Phuong said the reason Mr. Vo Thanh Nhieu was absent from the trial was because he did not receive a summons and could not come. "The incident has lasted for more than 2 years, no matter what the outcome is, our family always believes in the fairness of the law. Up to this point, we do not expect anything, just follow the legal procedures and we always believe in the law," she shared.

Meanwhile, lawyer Nguyen Tuyet Ngoc (who protects Hong Loan's legal rights and interests) said: "We are always ready to attend the trial to resolve it according to the law. However, because Mr. Vo Thanh Nhieu was absent, according to procedural regulations, the case had to be postponed. We are a bit disappointed that the trial was postponed, but it must be resolved according to the law."
