Movie "De Men": The fusion of musical materials creates attraction

After more than 80 years of its release, the classic literary work “The Adventures of Men the Cricket” by writer To Hoai has been adapted for the first time into a 3D movie titled “Cricket: Adventure to the Swamp”. Not only does the film evoke childhood memories of many generations, it also captivates audiences with its unique music , blending Vietnamese folklore and modern trends.

The musical element - the soul of the film, is a clever combination of folk songs, proverbs, traditional musical instruments and modern genres such as rap and electronic music. Zither, bamboo flute combined with vibrant electronic rhythms, create a mix that is both familiar and new, attracting audiences of all ages.

Director Mai Phuong shared that the idea of incorporating folk songs and proverbs comes from the desire to preserve the soul of Vietnamese culture, while at the same time renewing the story to be closer to young audiences.

Music producer Masew took on the role of Music Director for his first film project. He produced five songs, including three raps and two other songs, each depicting the personalities and stories of each character. Working with director Mai Phuong, Masew and his team did thorough research to turn folk songs and proverbs into catchy melodies that both retain their profound meanings and suit modern tastes.

In addition to the musical element, the film incorporates the message of environmental protection through the image of Xom Lay Loi, where the characters join hands to preserve nature. The spirit of solidarity and humanity, the core values in To Hoai's works, is also conveyed naturally and deeply.

Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Hoai Son - Standing Member of the National Assembly's Committee on Culture andEducation highly appreciated the enthusiasm of young people in this project, and expressed his hope that the film will not only be successful domestically but also reach out to the world, contributing to promoting Vietnamese culture.

“De Men: The Adventure to the Swamp” spreads a humane message of equality, charity and love for nature, promising to be a childhood gift for all ages. The film will officially premiere in theaters nationwide from May 30./.
