On November 23, at the Norwegian Prime Minister's Office, within the framework of an official visit to the Kingdom of Norway, VicePresident Vo Thi Anh Xuan had talks with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store.

Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store was delighted to welcome Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to the Kingdom of Norway, especially at the time marking the 52nd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (November 25, 1971 - November 25, 2023), saying that the visit demonstrated the strong commitment of the two countries to promote bilateral relations.

The Prime Minister expressed his special impression of Vietnam's outstanding achievements in implementing the United Nations' sustainable development goals, especially in the fields of poverty reduction and gender equality. He also congratulated Vietnam on being elected to the United Nations Human Rights Council for the second time and wished to cooperate closely with Vietnam in this field.

Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan sincerely thanked Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store and the Norwegian people for the warm and respectful welcome. Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan affirmed that Vietnam always appreciates the effective and valuable assistance that the Norwegian Government and people have given to Vietnam over the past time, supporting Vietnam in socio-economic development and fulfilling the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.

Discussing bilateral relations, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store expressed satisfaction with the positive developments after more than half a century of traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Norway. In order to increase political trust and mutual understanding, the two sides agreed to maintain delegation exchanges at all levels, especially high-level ones; and study the possibility of establishing a strategic cooperation framework in areas of both sides' strengths and needs. The two sides agreed to continue supporting each other in multilateral cooperation and in responding to global challenges.

Regarding economic cooperation, the Vice President and Prime Minister of Norway positively assessed the recent developments in bilateral trade and investment cooperation, especially Vietnam becoming Norway's second largest trade partner in ASEAN.

The two sides agreed to support and encourage Norwegian businesses to increase investment in Vietnam; actively coordinate to promote the negotiation process of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Vietnam and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) to open up economic cooperation opportunities between the two sides, serving the interests of the business communities of the two countries; strengthen cooperation within the framework of the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) through financial support, technology transfer, human resource improvement, and sharing of experiences in institution building.

The Norwegian Prime Minister also expressed his desire to establish a strategic cooperation mechanism in specific areas such as green transformation, circular economy and green economic activities. The two sides also agreed to expand cooperation in the fields of education and training - science and technology, social security issues, climate change, security - defense, and people-to-people exchange.

Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store shared Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan’s assessment of the Vietnamese community’s contributions to the socio-economic life in Norway; affirmed that the Norwegian Government will continue to create favorable conditions for the life of the Vietnamese community, contributing to promoting good relations between the two countries.

Discussing international and regional issues, the two leaders agreed that Vietnam and Norway will continue to cooperate closely at regional and international forums, especially the United Nations and the ASEAN-EU cooperation framework, contributing to maintaining peace and stability in the region and the world on the basis of respect for international law and the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter.

On this occasion, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan respectfully conveyed to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store the invitation to visit Vietnam from Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
