Proposal to confer the title of Labor Hero on former Vice President Nguyen Thi Binh

The Ministry of Home Affairs is seeking public opinion on a proposal to award the title "Hero of Labor" to former Vice President Nguyen Thi Binh.

The Ministry of Home Affairs is collecting public opinions on the proposal to award the title "Hero of Labor" to former member of the Party Central Committee, former Vice President, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam Nguyen Thi Binh.

This consultation step is based on Decree No. 152/2025/ND-CP of the Government regulating decentralization and delegation of powers in the field of emulation and commendation; detailing and guiding the implementation of a number of articles of the Law on Emulation and Commendation.

Previously, on August 7, the Office of the President issued Document No. 1053/TTr-VPCTN requesting the Prime Minister to consider and submit to the President the title "Hero of Labor" to Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh to honor her great contributions in the field of foreign affairs, especially in her position as Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Provisional Revolutionary Government in the period 1969-1976.

Suggested comments should be sent to the Central Emulation and Rewards Council, address 103 Quan Thanh, Ba Dinh, Hanoi for synthesis and reporting to the Central Emulation and Rewards Council.

According to the performance report, Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh's real name is Nguyen Thi Chau Sa, from Quang Nam (now Da Nang city).

During the period 1969-1976, as Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh was one of the typical symbols of revolutionary diplomacy.

Accordingly, Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh was the Head of the negotiating delegation of the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam at the Paris Conference (1968-1973), playing a decisive role in leading to the Paris Agreement on January 27, 1973, ending the US military intervention in South Vietnam.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh left a special mark in the history of Vietnamese diplomacy as the first and only person to date to have signed an international agreement with a representative of the United States Government during wartime.

The historic speeches of Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh at the conference with sharp, emotional arguments, attracted widespread support from international public opinion and anti-war movements in the US, France, Japan, Germany...

Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh was called "the iron woman of the negotiating table" by the international press. Her image became a symbol of peace, intelligence and revolutionary diplomatic mettle.

In addition, Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh has flexibly applied principles and skillful negotiation methods, combining negotiations with international advocacy. She has also left many beautiful impressions, deep affection and respect from international friends for the Vietnamese people and herself. Therefore, she has become a famous figure and female Vietnamese politician in the world./.
