On August 9, Nam Dinh Pho was included in the List of National Intangible Cultural Heritage in the category of folk knowledge by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, according to Decision No. 2326/QD-BVHTTDL. Nam Dinh's traditional dish fully meets the following criteria: Representative, expressing the identity of the community and locality; reflecting cultural diversity and human creativity, inherited through many generations; capable of recovery and long-term existence; agreed upon by the community, voluntarily nominated and committed to protection.
Nam Dinh is a land that preserves many rich and diverse cultural heritages. When coming here, visitors have the opportunity to enjoy many culinary specialties of the North. Among them, beef noodle soup is a delicious dish, with a rustic origin but gradually creating a big buzz.

According to the people who make pho here, since the end of the 19th century, many villagers went to work as workers in textile factories in Nam Dinh city, and pho stalls also went to Thanh Nam to serve the nighttime needs of city dwellers. From then on, Nam Dinh people brought the profession of making pho to all provinces and cities in the country. Nam Dinh pho has gradually built and affirmed its brand, not only as a famous delicious dish but also as the crystallization of Nam Dinh culinary culture.
The secret to creating the Nam Dinh pho brand lies in the broth. In addition to choosing fresh ingredients, the chef also processes the ingredients delicately to bring out the fatty, sweet aroma of the bones. Nam Dinh pho noodles are chewy, flexible, and soft. After pouring the broth, they curl up, become chewier and smoother; the sweetness of the starch and the broth blend together to create a rich pho flavor.
Early this year, from March 15 to March 17, thousands of locals and tourists attended the rich and attractive series of activities of the 2024 Pho Festival taking place in Nam Dinh province. During the three days of the festival, nearly 50 booths operated continuously at full capacity to serve long lines of diners patiently and eagerly waiting to enjoy the taste of pho. This was also an opportunity for visitors to learn about the types of Vietnamese pho, traditional spices, techniques to create delicious broth and enjoy pho from 3 regions with their own unique sophistication.
