Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment of Cuba Deborah Rivas Saavedra thanked Petrovietnam leaders for taking the time to receive the delegation, and said that Cuba is currently facing some difficulties in the energy sector, especially electricity. Recently, Cuba has experienced power outages, stemming from a lack of fuel and materials at power plants built during the former Soviet Union, leading to difficulties in regular maintenance and a lack of spare parts. In addition, US embargo policies have restricted Cuba's access to financial resources and the import of input materials.
To address the above issues, the Cuban Government has issued more preferential policies to attract foreign businesses to invest, including Petrovietnam. Ms. Deborah Rivas Saavedra expressed her pleasure that Petrovietnam will support Cuba in researching renewable energy solutions. In the immediate future, the two sides need to conduct research on feasible exploration projects so that experts have more information to specifically assess the oil and gas potential in Cuba. She affirmed that she will fully support Petrovietnam and CUPET to connect and cooperate in building roadmaps and implementing energy projects in the coming time.
