"A Bayraktar-TB2 unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) lost control during a planned flight on the evening of May 4. Mobile anti-aircraft artillery batteries were deployed to shoot down the aircraft to avoid unintended consequences. Unfortunately, such incidents are always a risk," the Ukrainian Air Force Command said in a statement on May 5.

Kiev Mayor Vitaly Klitschko later confirmed the downing of the UAV. According to Klitschko, debris from the Bayraktar-TB2 UAV fell on several houses in the Pecherskyi district, causing small fires. The capital's fire brigade immediately arrived at the scene to extinguish the fire. The incident did not cause any casualties.
Since the conflict between Moscow and Kiev broke out, the Ukrainian military has ordered several Bayraktar-TB2 UAVs from the Turkish company Baykar.
With a length of 6.5m, a wingspan of 12m and the ability to fly at a maximum speed of 220km/h within a maximum combat range of about 6,000km, the Bayraktar TB2 UAV is said to do a very good job of providing intelligence and updating the battlefield situation in real time, thereby supporting ground forces in reconnaissance and target designation.
In addition, with a maximum take-off weight of up to 650kg, the Bayraktar TB2 UAV can carry MAM L and MAM C missiles to attack enemy forces on the ground.

Thanks to its outstanding performance in the Ukrainian battlefield, Turkish aircraft manufacturer Baykar confirmed that its products are receiving attention from customers from all over the world and many orders are continuously pouring in.
In another development, the Crimean government accused the Ukrainian military of attacking the city of Sevastopol with suicide drones. The incident took place at around 7 p.m. on May 4. According to Sevastopol Governor Mikhail Razvozhayev, the target of this attack was the Belbek military airport. Russian air defense forces in Crimea shot down all Ukrainian UAVs involved in the attack on the evening of May 4.
Belbek Air Base is an important airfield for the Russian military in Crimea. From this airport, Russian fighter jets have taken off to carry out patrol missions over the Black Sea or attack Ukrainian military targets in the south of the country.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has not yet commented on the above accusation.
