On June 22, two large trees on Nguyen Van Tri Street ( Hoa Binh Ward, Bien Hoa City) and Vo Thi Sau Street (Thong Nhat Ward, Bien Hoa City) were uprooted and fell. Fortunately, there were no casualties or property damage. However, the worry of falling trees is always lurking during the current rainy and stormy season.

* Tree falls suddenly
At around 4:30 p.m. on June 22, a royal poinciana tree in Nguyen Van Tri Park (Hoa Binh Ward, along Dong Nai River) suddenly uprooted and fell across Nguyen Van Tri Street.
According to a local resident who witnessed the incident, at the time, although it was not raining, a 5m high royal poinciana tree on Nguyen Van Tri Street was uprooted and fell across the road. At the same time, it broke the lighting pole and pulled some nearby telecommunication cables down onto the road. At that time, two women riding a motorbike were hit by a tree branch and fell, but were quickly assisted by people on both sides of the road to get their motorbikes back up and continue moving.
Head of the Urban Management Department of Bien Hoa City, TRUONG VINH HIEP, noted: “Surveying, checking, and “diagnosing” urban trees must be done regularly. This plays an extremely important role in helping to limit risks caused by trees because through careful inspection, we can detect which trees are at risk of falling, which are dangerous, and which are not safe to handle according to regulations. At the same time, replace dead trees; prop up and prop up fallen trees…”. |
A representative of the People's Committee of Hoa Binh Ward said that immediately after the incident occurred, local authorities and relevant units regulated traffic and removed fallen trees blocking the road to ensure traffic safety through the area.
Then, a strong wind and rain at around 9pm on June 22 caused a large oil tree planted on the sidewalk of Vo Thi Sau Street (Thong Nhat Ward) to be uprooted and fall. Fortunately, the tree fell along the sidewalk, and at that time it was raining heavily, the road was deserted, and few people were passing by, so no pedestrians were injured. Vo Thi Sau Street is the central route of Bien Hoa City, usually with a lot of traffic.
According to some residents in Thong Nhat Ward, during the rainy season, when water seeps in, the soil becomes soft, so trees with shallow, weak roots are very susceptible to falling. This is also a matter of concern for the units responsible for planting and caring for the tree system on the streets in the coming time.
* Strengthen inspection of urban tree system
To ensure traffic safety, people's lives and property, and minimize incidents related to trees, especially during the rainy and stormy season, Head of the Bien Hoa City Urban Management Department Truong Vinh Hiep said that the city continues to direct the City Public Service Center and Sonadezi Environmental Joint Stock Company to continue patrolling, inspecting and reviewing the urban tree system in parks, flower gardens, concentrated tree planting areas, street trees... within the scope of management and care in the area. Functional units regularly monitor weather conditions, proactively arrange human resources and means to promptly respond to and overcome incidents of fallen trees in the management area to ensure traffic safety, safety of works and property of organizations and people in the area.

Deputy Director of Bien Hoa Public Service Company Nguyen Tan Hai said that the unit always proactively arranges human resources and equipment to respond to and handle incidents during the rainy and stormy season; promptly detects and fixes incidents of fallen trees in the management area to ensure traffic safety, safety of works and property of people in the area. Currently, the unit is still maintaining and strictly implementing the work of pruning and checking trees.
“It is very difficult to avoid trees breaking or falling when there are large storms. Therefore, in addition to increasing the work of ensuring tree safety by functional units, when there are storms, strong winds, and heavy rain, people should not stand under the canopy of large trees, limit traffic on the road, but should find safe shelter, take the initiative in protecting themselves and their property, and avoid unexpected incidents,” Mr. Hai noted.
In the coming days, there will be rain in the afternoon and evening. On June 23, Dong Nai Hydrometeorological Station forecasted that from now until June 29, the sky will be cloudy, sunny during the day, scattered rain in many places in the evening, heavy rain and thunderstorms in some places. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind. Southwest wind level 2, level 3. Rainfall: 20-150mm, average temperature from 27-29 0 C.
