On the morning of August 26, Mr. Hoang Viet Viet - Chairman of the People's Committee of Ea Drang Commune, Dak Lak Province - said that he had received information about parents' reactions to Ly Tu Trong Primary School's plan to change student uniforms for the new school year.
Ly Tu Trong Primary School, where the controversy over student uniforms occurred
According to Mr. Viet, the school has only discussed the change of school uniforms, no specific document has been issued yet, and the commune has directed it to stop immediately.
"At the beginning of the new school year, the commune thoroughly grasps the issue of revenue and expenditure at schools, avoiding overcharging. Our viewpoint is to practice thrift and avoid waste, including making more school uniforms," Mr. Viet affirmed.
Previously, some parents of students at Ly Tu Trong Primary School posted on social media that each week students have to wear 3 different colorful uniforms to school.
According to parents' feedback, in 2023-2024, Ly Tu Trong Primary School had yellow uniforms for students. In the 2024-2025 school year, the school agreed to buy more orange uniforms for students. At the beginning of the 2025-2026 school year, the school changed the uniform to light brown pants or skirts and green shirts.
Thus, in addition to blue pants, white shirts, and gym clothes, students of Ly Tu Trong Primary School also have 3 more uniform shirts: yellow, orange, and blue.
Parents react to students having to wear colorful uniforms on a rotating basis during the week
Recently, on the Zalo group, teachers of Ly Tu Trong Primary School announced: "Wear blue shirts on Monday and Wednesday; orange shirts on Tuesday and Thursday; and white, blue, or orange shirts on Friday. On days when there is physical education, wear physical education clothes."
Speaking to the press, a leader of Ly Tu Trong Primary School explained that at the end of the 2024-2025 school year, the parents' association discussed and implemented blue uniforms priced at VND145,000/set to build the "school brand". However, when this started to be implemented, some parents reacted.
"Most parents agreed, only a few reacted. Therefore, the school decided to return the ordered items to the manufacturer, hoping they would understand," Mr. Quan informed.
Regarding the wearing of uniforms as announced on the Zalo group, the leader of Ly Tu Trong Primary School said that the head of the school's team was somewhat hasty because the school had not yet implemented it. The school would like to learn from this incident.
