Readers sent questions about Hung Vuong Primary School, No. 660-662 Pham Van Chi Street, Binh Tien Ward, Ho Chi Minh City (old District 6 area). On September 19, Thanh Nien Newspaper reporter discussed with Ms. Tong Thi Quoc Thanh, Principal of the school, about these issues.

School gates are plagued by trash

Parents complained that "the school gate is dirty and polluted, people around the area let their dogs out to defecate, many students accidentally trampled on them..."

Ms. Tong Thi Quoc Thanh said that the school has 2 gates, the main gate is on Pham Van Chi street, the back gate is near the garbage collection point of District 6 Public Service Company. Every day, garbage collection trucks from the teams bring garbage here, gather at the garbage truck waiting station, this garbage collection point smells bad, the garbage truck water flows down the street, stagnates for a long time and also causes a bad smell... At the same time, next to the back gate of the school is also a scrap yard...

Ms. Thanh admitted that in reality, many people let their dogs run free and defecate indiscriminately around the school gate and the flower beds in front of the school. Every early morning, before 6:30, the school service staff and security guards clean up and spray water to clean up before the students arrive at school, but sometimes they can’t keep up.

The People's Committee and the Party Committee of Binh Tien Ward pay close attention.

Ms. Tong Thi Quoc Thanh said that Hung Vuong Primary School was established in 2010 until now, the problem of school gates being plagued by garbage and the stench of garbage has existed for many years, and the school board has reported many times, pointing out the difficulties and presenting the problems to the Ward People's Committee and the Ward Party Committee. Previously, the school and the garbage collection station were located in different wards, the station was in Ward 7, the school was in Ward 8, old District 6. From July 1, 2025, both units will be located in Binh Tien Ward, Ho Chi Minh City. Therefore, it is hoped that in the coming time, the environmental sanitation problem at the school gate will have many improvements.

It is known that on the morning of September 19, a working delegation from the Party Committee of Binh Tien Ward, Ho Chi Minh City visited the school, the principal also presented and raised these issues with the Party Committee of the ward. Previously, at the Party Congress of Binh Tien Ward, the Principal of Hung Vuong Primary School also expressed his opinion. Recently, at the session to study the Resolution of the Politburo on education, health care, and healthcare, the Party Committee of Binh Tien Ward continued to pay attention, discuss with the school about this issue and discuss final solutions.

School uniforms do not have logos printed on them. Parents can buy or sew them themselves.

Along with complaining about the school gate being littered with trash, this parent also wondered: "Why aren't school uniforms sold at the school this year? Why are parents forced to go to a rented house in a dead-end alley in Binh Tan district to buy them?"

Ms. Tong Thi Quoc Thanh answered Thanh Nien Newspaper reporter: "The school does not sell uniforms in school. Parents have many ways to buy uniforms for their children. They can go to the company's point of sale to buy uniforms for students or buy them at the market or any store, or parents can buy fabric to make uniforms for their children themselves, as long as they match the required color. Children who study in boarding schools should wear light blue shirts. Children who study 2 sessions/day without boarding schools should wear white shirts. White shirts with dark blue collars are also fine. Many children can still wear clothes from previous years, so this year they do not need to buy new uniforms."

"The school does not impose any restrictions on where to buy uniforms, because the school's uniforms have been the same for more than ten years. In recent years, the school has not printed the school logo on shirts or even gym uniforms. For the convenience of parents, the school only issues badges for children to print on shirts, so children can buy them anywhere or have them made anywhere," Ms. Tong Thi Quoc Thanh affirmed.

The principal explained the reason for having to cut down some trees.

"Schools need green spaces with trees to provide shade for children to play, but this year the school cut down all the trees in the yard and instead built a thatched house in the yard for what purpose?", a parent asked in a complaint sent to the editorial office.

Ms. Tong Thi Quoc Thanh said: "This summer, the school had a sake tree and a Barringtonia acutangula tree that were rotten and had worms boring into the tree trunk, so the school had to cut them down to ensure the safety of the students. The school also resurfaced the yard that used to be sand, ensuring a clean and beautiful environment for children to play. At the same time, the school yard has a green library - a reading corner for the children, not a "thatched house" as parents reported. At the same time, the construction and installation of this green library was sponsored by a philanthropist, fully supporting the students, and parents do not have to contribute any funds."
