Phuong My Chi sings reformed opera, continues to 'cause a storm' at international shows

Phuong My Chi performed a verse from the opera "Tieng Trong Me Linh", and together with co-star Kha Lau successfully conquered the judges in the performance in the semi-finals of "Sing! Asia".

The latest episode of Sing! Asia 2025 (The Voice of Asia) at Shanghai Station (China) continued to witness the explosion of Phuong My Chi - Vietnam's representative - in the duo competition.

Here, Phuong My Chi collaborated with Kha Lau - a Chinese singer in the mashup Tuy am and Luc hai vi vuong (arranged by DTAP group).

The couple demonstrated the connection and cultural exchange between the two countries when Phuong My Chi sang Luc Hai Vi Vuong in Vietnamese, while Kha Lau performed Tuy Am in Chinese.

In particular, Phuong My Chi created a highlight with the vọng cổ verse in the classic cải lương work Tiếng Trống Mê Linh : "...But alas, the ambition of the world has not yet been satisfied, and the path of life and death is separated by cold clouds of sadness" , evoking a majestic and tragic atmosphere for the performance.

The performance received positive feedback from the judges. Actor To Huu Bang said that the performance was complete in both performance and musical elements.

He was surprised because Phuong My Chi had many breakthroughs through the rounds. Previously, To Huu Bang had given many compliments to the singer born in 2003 in a show recorded in Vietnam.

Singer Truong Luong Dinh - who has one of the top voices in China today commented: "The song has a tricky combination of melodies and is difficult to perform. However, the way both of you performed it brought me a lot of emotions."

With their perfect combination on stage, Phuong My Chi and Kha Lau received 190.6 points. They were one of the three couples who received high scores in this round.

The 22-year-old singer is confident in her first time competing in an international music show.

Backstage, Phuong My Chi expressed her joy and emotion after the results were announced. The performance was even more meaningful to the singer because this was the first time she brought Vietnamese reformed opera combined with Chinese drama to the international stage.

“I am really happy and proud to be part of this collaboration. Thank you everyone for always following and supporting me on this journey. I hope that at the second semi-final stop, I will still receive the audience's love,” she said.

Phuong My Chi is expected to reach the final round of the competition.

Winning the latest round, Phuong My Chi continues to enter the next semi-final round, where the contestants compete to win a place in the final.

Sing! Asia 2025 (The Voice of Asia) is the first cross-national music competition held with a panel of judges including: Su Huu Bang, Jessie J, Jimmy Lin and singer Dan Truong.

The program brings together 32 promising singers and judges from 9 Asian countries.

Dan Truong was exhausted and had to "compensate" for attending a show with To Huu Bang and Phuong My Chi . Dan Truong revealed that he had to "cry to compensate" the brand, was exhausted and only slept 3-4 hours/day when participating in Sing Asia, and steadfastly supported Phuong My Chi until she won first place in the Vietnam station.
