Thuong Cat Ward, Dong Ngac: Ensuring safety for people in the Red River area

In response to the developments of storm Wipha and the accompanying rain, Thuong Cat and Dong Ngac wards (Hanoi), areas with the Hong right dike system running through them, have proactively deployed plans to prevent and combat storms and heavy rains that may occur early and from afar.

In Dong Ngac ward, on the morning of July 22, Party Secretary and Chairman of the Ward People's Council Ngo Van Nam said that the ward has requested departments, branches and residential groups to absolutely not be subjective, and at the same time pay attention to strictly handling organizations and individuals who violate regulations on dikes, especially the act of dumping waste on the dike; requesting to move all waste out of the violating area. The ward police coordinated with functional forces to control and ensure absolute safety for people and property.

In addition, households are also advised to prepare backup plans for food, clean water and lighting in case of prolonged power outages, paying special attention to ensuring the safety of vulnerable family members.

Notably, in the Red River area through the locality, the ward has requested organizations and individuals to move all machinery, equipment, supplies and materials out of the river area; and stop all inland waterway port activities. The working group inspecting dykes and inland waterway ports of the ward has organized to set up barriers in the Red River area through the locality to ensure safety for the people.

“This process is carried out in parallel with information and propaganda on loudspeaker channels, community Zalo groups and direct notification to residential groups, in order to minimize risks and traffic congestion when complex storms occur. The ward has also arranged schools in the area as shelters for households if they are forced to evacuate due to storm Wipha,” said comrade Ngo Van Nam.

Meanwhile, in Thuong Cat ward, the ward's functional forces have proactively implemented the "four on-site" motto to proactively respond to storms and floods.

Before, during and after the storm, the Standing Committee of the Ward's Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue Command organizes on-duty shifts, summarizes situation reports, and promptly advises on direction plans.
