Pogba is about to join Monaco.

ESPN said Monaco is close to completing all procedures to recruit Pogba as a free agent this summer. Both sides agreed to sign a 2-year contract. For the first time in his career, the midfielder born in 1993 will play in Ligue 1.

Pogba has previously received many offers to play in MLS and Saudi Pro League but he has turned them down. The former MU star wants to maintain his top-level football so he can return to play for France at the 2026 World Cup.

Pogba told ESPN that he considered retiring after receiving a four-year ban. "I had a lot of thoughts in my head, even wanting to stop. I asked myself: 'What am I going to do? If it's four years, who would want me? Am I healthy enough?'" Pogba recalled.

The French star also criticized Juventus for not supporting him during his training while banned from playing. The midfielder said: "I was not allowed to do anything, including hiring a coach from Juventus or receiving special treatment at the club. They were not really by my side. That feeling hurt me. I don't understand why. I told myself that I was fighting against doping, not Juventus."

Pogba's last appearance was in September 2023. Meanwhile, the last time this midfielder played a full 90 minutes was more than 3 years ago, when he was still playing for Manchester United.

Monaco have a ticket to the Champions League next season so they are determined to strengthen their squad. In addition to Pogba, the Ligue 1 team has successfully recruited Eric Dier on a free transfer. Monaco are also negotiating to welcome striker Ansu Fati from Barcelona on loan with an option to buy.
