Defense News reported on August 1 that the weapon system includes a platform to launch an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) carrying a projectile, as well as electro-optical and infrared sensors.
The US military is expected to receive its first batch of LASSO in 2024.
According to Mr. Samuel Bendett, an expert in the field of unmanned aerial vehicles from the US, both Russia and Ukraine are currently actively using UAVs.
“Now, we need a large number of FPV (first-person view) UAVs. But we also need to bring these weapons to a longer range, where they can strike at the enemy's rear,” said the US expert.
Last July, Dmitry Kuzyakin, CEO of the Center for Integrated Unmanned Solutions (Russia), said that the introduction of FPV combat drones into military service could be compared to the appearance of firearms in the 14th century.
