According to the report, Quang Binh and Quang Tri provinces have made serious preparations and are ready for the merger. The socio -economic situation in the first 6 months of this year has improved a lot. The GRDP of Quang Binh province is estimated to increase by 7.74%. Quang Tri province has an estimated economic growth of 7.16%.
Speaking at the meeting, General Secretary To Lam warmly praised the results achieved by the two provinces. However, the General Secretary also pointed out difficulties and limitations affecting competitiveness and development speed.

According to the General Secretary, the new province will possess a diverse and synchronous inter-regional transport system. This is a condition for integrating planning, strongly developing the marine economy, border gate economy, logistics and international trade.

The merger will facilitate the formation of value chains linking production to consumption, effectively utilizing the infrastructure of Hon La and My Thuy deep-water ports, coastal economic zones and raw material areas along the East-West corridor. This is the basis for enhancing regional competitiveness, increasing the ability to attract large-scale investment and forming a new growth pole in the North Central region.
Interregional vision and key tasks
To effectively exploit the potential, General Secretary To Lam has set out many specific tasks.
Regarding the organizational structure, General Secretary To Lam proposed to urgently complete the arrangement according to the two-level government model. The process must be carried out synchronously, openly, transparently, prioritizing quality and capacity, resolutely not allowing the emergence of localism and group interests.
Regarding economic development, the General Secretary pointed out that the province only possesses a large-scale infrastructure network including the North-South Expressway, Dong Hoi Airport, Quang Tri Airport, Hon La and My Thuy Ports. The province needs to plan key international tourist clusters, based on the advantages of nearly 200km of coastline and heritage sites such as Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park.

Regarding the preparation for the new Provincial Party Congress, the General Secretary requested that the document must not be just a “patchwork” of two old strategies. The document must be the crystallization of innovative thinking, inter-regional vision and common development aspirations.
Regarding national defense and security, General Secretary To Lam noted the need to proactively grasp the situation at the grassroots level, especially in areas with ethnic, religious, and border factors. There should be absolutely no loopholes, passivity, or surprises in the process of restructuring the apparatus.
Previously, General Secretary To Lam and the Central Working Delegation visited and offered flowers and incense at the Temple of Uncle Ho and the Heroic Martyrs of Quang Binh province.
