
The heavy rains and floods in the past few days have deeply inundated and isolated many residential areas in the basins of Ve, Tra Khuc, and Phuoc Giang rivers. Authorities have set up checkpoints and traffic control. This morning, November 20, the water level on the rivers is decreasing, and the flooding in Nghia Hanh, Phuoc Giang, and Dinh Cuong communes has also decreased.
In Son Tay commune, a landslide occurred at Son Long Primary and Secondary Boarding School, with rocks and soil flowing into the porch and boarding area, threatening the safety of students. In Mang But commune, Dak Nen Kindergarten also experienced a landslide behind the classrooms, with rocks and soil flowing into the yard, threatening the safety of students. In Ba Dinh commune, 3 landslides occurred. In Son Ky commune, landslides continued to occur in Mat Bang hamlet (Nuoc Lac village) and Hoang Mat hamlet (Mo O village). In Son Tay Ha commune, landslides occurred near Nuoc Cu residential area, Ka Nang village. In addition, landslides also occurred on Phuoc Giang river (Phuoc Giang commune) and To river (Ba Dinh commune, 2 locations). In the face of the dangerous situation, local authorities organized the emergency evacuation of 103 households with 386 people in areas at risk of landslides.
The floods and whirlwinds completely collapsed 5 houses and blew off the roofs of 37 houses in Nguyen Nghiem, Duc Pho, Ba Vi, Son Tay, Son Mai and Dinh Cuong wards. The floods caused nearly 40 landslides on the positive and negative slopes, soil and rocks spilled onto the road surface, and damaged drainage ditches along national highways, provincial roads and roads managed by the Department of Construction, with an estimated volume of about 22,000 m3 . Particularly, there were 20 landslides on commune roads, causing traffic jams.
According to statistics from localities and units, the total damage caused by floods from November 15-20 in Quang Ngai province is about 300 billion VND. In the face of the complicated developments of the flood situation, the Provincial Civil Defense Command requested localities and units to continue to deploy response plans, and urgently organize forces and means to clear soil and rocks to ensure traffic safety.
