Go to home to encourage students to go to class

Dinh Hoai Anh (class 4C, Long Son Primary School, Minh Long District) has a very difficult situation. Her mother passed away early, she lives with her father and disabled brother. Her father often works far away, so Hoai Anh is one of the cases with a very high possibility of not attending class in the upcoming school year.

Teachers and local authorities went to students' homes to encourage them to attend class.

Knowing the circumstances of Hoai Anh’s family, teachers from Long Son Primary School regularly coordinate with local authorities to visit her home to encourage her. The teachers also bring gifts to encourage her.

Mr. Dinh Van Op (parent of Dinh Hoai Anh) shared: “Recently, the government and the school board have come to persuade our child to go to class. Our family is very grateful and will try to let our child go to school regularly.”

According to teacher Ho Thi Thuong, the life of the people in Minh Long district is extremely difficult, they are attached to the fields all year round so they do not pay much attention to their children's education. Therefore, students often drop out of school, especially after the summer break.

"For teachers in mountainous areas, in addition to their professional work, they also have the task of knocking on doors to convince students who have skipped school to come back to school," said Ms. Thuong.

The work of mobilizing students to go to class has been implemented since August.

In order to ensure the number of students in the new school year, since the beginning of August, teachers in the mountainous district of Minh Long have actively encouraged students to attend class, especially those at risk of dropping out. Despite the difficulties, teachers are not discouraged, all for the purpose of ensuring teaching quality and putting students at the center.

In the 2024-2025 school year, Minh Long district has over 4,600 students, and so far the attendance rate is relatively adequate. For the remaining students who have not yet attended class, teachers will continue to visit each house to mobilize them.

Complete facilities

In addition to ensuring the rate of students attending class, the Department of Education and Training of Quang Ngai province in general and mountainous districts in particular are also urgently completing facilities, purchasing teaching equipment, stabilizing the teaching staff, and cleaning classrooms.

In preparation for the new school year 2024-2025, Dinh Thanh Khang Primary and Secondary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities (Son Tay district) invested in building 9 more classrooms and 12 boarding rooms to eliminate 3 separate schools.

In the 2024-2025 school year, Son Tay district invested more than 10 billion VND to build and repair school facilities. Currently, schools are coordinating with localities and parents to encourage students to go to class according to the new school year opening plan.

In Ba To, this mountainous district has 47 schools with about 16,000 students. The district has 1 boarding school for ethnic minorities and 3 semi-boarding schools for ethnic minorities. To prepare for the new school year, the district Department of Education and Training coordinated with communes and towns to review facilities, teaching equipment, and textbooks.

Deputy Head of the Department of Education and Training of Ba To district, Dinh Thi Ai Ly, said: “Regarding facilities, the department annually consults the district People's Committee to supplement investment funds. Schools with classrooms that do not ensure safety for students will be given priority for repair.”

In the 2024-2025 school year, Quang Ngai will have nearly 600 educational units and facilities; approximately 9,200 classrooms with about 287,000 students. The province has allocated 30 billion VND from the education career fund for the education and training sector to repair facilities for 39 affiliated units.

For mountainous districts, currently 100% of primary schools in ethnic minority areas have built models to enhance Vietnamese language for ethnic minority students.

From there, creating a playground and a healthy, friendly learning environment to promote the confidence and creativity of ethnic minority students in the learning process, helping them gradually accumulate Vietnamese language skills, practice communication skills, life skills,...

The number of students who cannot read clearly, cannot speak complete sentences, has decreased positively, gradually contributing to improving the quality of education. 100% of 5-year-old ethnic minority children attend Vietnamese language preparation classes before entering grade 1.

Director of the Department of Education and Training of Quang Ngai province Nguyen Ngoc Thai said that up to this point, preparations for the new school year have been basically completed.

“The Department is currently coordinating with districts to conduct surveys to submit to competent authorities for inclusion in the 2026-2030 medium-term plan to implement infrastructure construction. Medium-term public investment projects will also prioritize schools in mountainous areas,” Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thai informed.
