(GLO)- On the morning of May 21, with 449/449 delegates present in favor (100%), the National Assembly passed a Resolution on shortening the term of the 15th National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for the 2021-2026 term and a Resolution on the national election day for the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term.

Accordingly, the National Assembly resolved to shorten the term of the 15th National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for the 2021-2026 term. The election day for the 16th National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term is Sunday, March 15, 2026. At the same time, the first session of the 16th National Assembly will be convened no later than 60 days from the election date. For People's Councils at all levels, the first session will be convened no later than 45 days from the election date.

Previously, the Standing Committee of the National Assembly proposed that the term of the 15th National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for the 2021-2026 term be shortened by 3 months, ending in early April 2026 (instead of July 2026). This is to promptly complete high-level personnel, assign new-term Party Committee members to ensure consistency, comprehensiveness, continuous stability, and connectivity of key staff in Party, State, Government, Fatherland Front, and socio- political organizations.

In addition, shortening the time between the National Party Congress and the first session of the new National Assembly and People's Councils also allows Party committees at all levels of the new term to promptly implement the resolutions of the 14th National Party Congress and Party congresses at all levels.
