Vietnam's economic scale is about to surpass Singapore's, reaching upper middle income by 2025?

A report by the UK's independent Center for Economic Forecasting and Analysis CEBR shows that Vietnam's GDP in 2024 will reach 450 billion USD, up one place from the previous year, to 34th in the world and will surpass Singapore in 2029. At that time, Vietnam's GDP is forecast to reach 676 billion USD, while Singapore's is 656 billion USD.

Proposal for new electricity price mechanism: price adjustment every 2 months

The Ministry of Industry and Trade is seeking comments on a draft Decree regulating the mechanism, adjustment time, basis for establishing and adjusting average retail electricity prices.

A notable point of the draft is to shorten the time between electricity price increases. Specifically, when the average electricity price increases by 2% or more compared to the current average electricity price, the electricity price is allowed to be adjusted upward. The minimum time for adjusting the average electricity price is 2 months from the last electricity price adjustment. (See details)

Banks are not allowed to send information links to customers from January 1, 2025.

According to Circular 50/2024/TT-NHNN of the State Bank regulating safety and security for providing online services in the banking industry, from January 1, 2025, banks will not send SMS messages or emails to customers containing hyperlinks to access electronic news sites.

This request is made in the context of brandname scam messages (sending messages to customers' phones), in which the message contains a fake link. When customers access the link, their bank account information will be stolen, leading to the risk of losing money. (See details)

81,000 tax debtors are subject to temporary suspension of exit from January 1, 2025.

In the document requesting the Ministry of Justice to soon comment on the draft decree regulating the threshold for temporary exit suspension, the Ministry of Finance clearly stated the basis for selecting the tax debt threshold and the tax debt period subject to temporary exit suspension.

If the threshold for tax debt overdue for more than 120 days is applied at VND50 million for individuals and VND100 million for businesses from January 1, 2025, about 81,000 people will be subject to temporary suspension of exit. (See details)
