Picking lotus in the pond at dawn, earning millions every day

TPO – From abandoned swamps, the youth union and farmers association of Ha Tinh have planted lotus to create a landscape and bring high economic benefits. Each day of harvesting flowers, people earn millions of dong.

In the last days of the season, the lotus pond of more than 2 hectares in Thach Hung commune, Ha Tinh city is still in full bloom. The fragrant flowers are harvested by people and sold to cooperatives to make ingredients for making lotus tea and lotus wine.

The lotus pond, which is more than 2 hectares wide, was jointly implemented by the Youth Union of Thach Hung commune and the Commune Farmers' Association since 2020. After more than 4 years of implementation, the model has brought high economic efficiency.

The lotus grown here is of the Cyclamen variety. The flowers have a strong fragrance and are harvested in the morning when they bloom.

From 4:30 am, at the lotus pond, youth forces, farmers' association officials and people were present to pick flowers.

Lotus flowers are bought at 1,200-1,500 VND/flower. Each day, 1,000-3,000 lotus flowers are picked and sold, earning 1-3 million VND.

People are happy because this year lotus has a good harvest and good price. Since the beginning of the season, more than 50,000 flowers have been harvested.

This place used to be an abandoned swamp, now it creates great economic value.

The lotus planting model implemented by the Farmers' Association and Youth Union of Thach Hung commune not only creates a beautiful landscape but also brings high economic efficiency.

“Lotus is grown on a field of more than 2 hectares, and has grown well so far, bringing high economic efficiency. When the season comes, the flowers bloom to welcome visitors to come and take pictures, then harvest them to sell as raw materials to make lotus tea and wine… This year, lotus has a good harvest and good prices, so we are very excited,” said Ms. Nguyen Thi Trang - Secretary of the Youth Union of Thach Hung commune (Ha Tinh city).
