Rock 'n' Roll originated in the early 1950s in the United States, then developed into many different genres from the 1960s in the UK and the US. The late 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s were the "golden years" of rock music. By the 2000s, Rock 'n' Roll seemed to lose its appeal, giving way to rap. Famous Rock 'n' Roll artists and bands include Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, Jimmy Hendrix, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, and many others.
