Ronaldo was honored but not in the best team of 2023

The International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) has just announced the 2023 best team. Immediately, fans noticed something unusual: Cristiano Ronaldo was not included. The three names appearing in the attack line are Harry Kane (Tottenham), Erling Haaland (Man City) and Kylian Mbappe (PSG). All three stars have worse achievements than Ronaldo in 2023. Kane and Mbappe have 52 goals, while Ronaldo has 54 goals.

The IFFHS even reserved a place in the squad for Lionel Messi, who finished 2023 with just 28 goals and 12 assists. Alongside "EL Pulga" was an impressive midfield line-up consisting of Rodri, Jude Bellingham and Kevin De Bruyne.

The IFFHS move has sparked a fierce debate on social media. "So what's the point of Ronaldo's award for the top scorer of the year?", one fan wondered. "This is like Ronaldo winning the Ballon d'Or but not being in the best team. It's ridiculous," another fan said. "Ronaldo deserves a place in this team," a CR7 fan urged.

Previously, IFFHS published an article confirming that Ronaldo was the winner of the 2023 top scorer award. The former MU star received this individual award for the 5th time, even making history as the only player to win the award while playing for 2 different teams.

After the International Federation of Football History and Statistics, Globe Soccer also announced that Ronaldo won the "Diego Maradona Award" for the top scorer of the calendar year. CR7 is also competing in many other categories such as the best player of the year (Dubai Golden Ball), best player in the Middle East, and most beloved player by fans.

In the Dubai Ballon d'Or category, Ronaldo finished first in the fan voting phase. Now, a panel of experts including former players and coaches will decide whether CR7 deserves this award or not. Previously, Ronaldo won the Dubai Ballon d'Or 6 times.

In another development, on January 5, the Saudi Arabian national championship organizing committee announced that Cristiano Ronaldo was the winner of the Best Player award for December 2023.

No player has won more of these awards than the Portuguese superstar in the past year. CR7 has been honored four times, in February, August, September and December respectively.

This is a worthy reward for Ronaldo's efforts. After opening December with a loss to Al Hilal, Ronaldo "turned on destruction mode" with 5 goals in just the last 4 matches of the calendar year.
