In the final round of the Saudi Pro League (Saudi Arabia Championship), Ronaldo's Al Nassr only needed a draw with Al Fateh to secure a place in the top 3, along with a ticket to the AFC Champions League next season. However, Ronaldo and his teammates could not complete the goal when they lost 2-3 to Al Fateh.
Al Nassr got off to a good start when Ronaldo opened the scoring in the 42nd minute. This was Ronaldo's 936th career goal. With this goal, Ronaldo also won the Saudi Pro League top scorer title with 25 goals, 2 more than the second-placed Ivan Toney.
But Ronaldo's goal did not help the home team much. Al Fateh equalized in the 45+4 minute thanks to a goal by Matías Vargas.
In the 75th minute, Sadio Mane scored to raise the score to 2-1 for Al Nassr but Ronaldo's team collapsed in the final minutes.
In the 81st minute, Mourad Batna scored the equalizer 2-2 for Al Fateh. And tragedy struck Al Nassr in the 90+6 minute when Matheus Machado scored the winning goal 3-2 for Al Fateh.
With this defeat, Al Nassr has 67 points, ranking fourth overall in the Saudi Pro League this season, one point behind third-placed Al Qadsiah. However, Ronaldo and his teammates still have hope of qualifying for the AFC Champions League if they win the lawsuit.
Specifically, Al Nassr is appealing the loss to Al-Oruba in round 23 on February 28 on the grounds that the opponent used an unqualified goalkeeper. If they win the appeal, Al Nassr will likely be awarded 3 points and return to third place.
