Industrial production continues to maintain positive growth momentum

(MPI) - Industrial production maintained positive growth momentum, with the industrial production index in July 2024 estimated to increase by 0.7% over the previous month and by 11.2% over the same period last year. In the first 7 months of 2024, the industrial production index for the entire industry is estimated to increase by 8.5% over the same period last year.

The index of industrial production (IIP) for July 2024 is estimated to increase by 0.7% over the previous month and by 11.2% over the same period last year. Of which, compared to the same period last year, the processing and manufacturing industry increased by 13.3%; the electricity production and distribution industry increased by 9.9%; water supply, waste and wastewater management and treatment activities increased by 12.1%; the mining industry alone decreased by 7.0%.

In the first 7 months of 2024, IIP is estimated to increase by 8.5% over the same period last year (decreased by 0.8% in the same period in 2023). Of which, the processing and manufacturing industry increased by 9.5% (decreased by 1.2% in the same period in 2023), contributing 8.2 percentage points to the overall increase; the electricity production and distribution industry increased by 12.4% (increased by 1.4% in the same period in 2023), contributing 1.1 percentage points; the water supply, waste and wastewater management and treatment industry increased by 7.2% (increased by 5.2% in the same period in 2023), contributing 0.1 percentage point; the mining industry alone decreased by 6.2% (decreased by 2.0% in the same period in 2023), causing a decrease of 0.9 percentage points.

The production index in the first 7 months of 2024 of some key secondary industries increased sharply compared to the same period last year, such as the production of rubber and plastic products increased by 28.7%; the production of beds, cabinets, tables and chairs increased by 21.5%; the production of chemicals and chemical products increased by 17.3%; the mining of metal ores increased by 15.0%; the production of prefabricated metal products (except machinery and equipment) increased by 13.0%; the production of metal increased by 12.8%; the production of electrical equipment increased by 12.5%; the textile and production and distribution of electricity, gas, hot water, steam and air conditioning increased by 12.4%; the production of electronic products, computers and optical products increased by 11.1%; and the production of food processing increased by 7.4%. On the contrary, the IIP index of some industries decreased, such as crude oil and natural gas exploitation decreased by 12.4%; repair, maintenance and installation of machinery and equipment decreased by 2.9%; production of products from other non-metallic minerals decreased by 1.8%; mining of hard coal and lignite decreased by 1.3%.

The industrial production index in the first 7 months of 2024 compared to the same period last year increased in 60 localities and decreased in 03 localities nationwide. Some localities had a fairly high increase in the IIP index due to the high increase in the processing and manufacturing industry; the electricity production and distribution industry. On the contrary, some localities had a decrease in the IIP index due to the low increase or decrease in the processing and manufacturing industry; the mining industry and the electricity production and distribution industry.

Some key industrial products in the first seven months of 2024 increased sharply compared to the same period last year, such as steel bars and angle steel increased by 31.4%; rolled steel increased by 17.8%; natural fiber woven fabrics increased by 17.0%; NPK mixed fertilizer increased by 14.2%; powdered milk increased by 12.3%; diameter increased by 12.0%; phone components increased by 11.7%. On the contrary, some products decreased compared to the same period last year, such as natural gas in gas form and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) both decreased by 16.9%; crude oil decreased by 7.1%; beer decreased by 3.8%; mobile phones decreased by 3.2%; aluminum decreased by 3.1%; iron and crude steel decreased by 1.6%.

The number of employees working in industrial enterprises as of July 1, 2024 increased by 0.9% compared to the same period last month and increased by 3.3% compared to the same period last year. Of which, employees in the State-owned enterprise sector increased by 0.1% and 1.5%; non-State enterprises increased by 0.5% and 0.7%; foreign-invested enterprises increased by 1.2% and 4.3%. By industry, the number of employees working in mining enterprises increased by 0.1% compared to the same period last month and increased by 0.4% compared to the same period last year; the processing and manufacturing industry increased by 1.0% and increased by 3.5%; the electricity, gas, hot water, steam and air conditioning production and distribution industry remained unchanged compared to the same period last month and increased by 1.1% compared to the same period last year; In particular, the water supply, waste and wastewater management and treatment sector decreased by 0.1% compared to the same period last month and increased by 1.2% compared to the same period last year./.
