On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2024), on October 3, the City Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hanoi organized a meeting to pay tribute to Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, Heroes of the Armed Forces, veteran revolutionary cadres, veterans, and people who directly participated in the Liberation of the Capital in the city.
Attending the program were comrade Nguyen Thi Tuyen, member of the Party Central Committee, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee and more than 200 witnesses who directly participated in the Liberation of the Capital.
At the ceremony, through a reportage with the theme "Determination to die for the survival of the Fatherland", the delegates recalled the time when Hanoi and the whole country heroically rose up to fight against the French. After many hardships of the 9-year resistance war, our army and people achieved the glorious victory of Dien Bien Phu , and the victorious army returned to liberate the capital on a historic autumn day.
The report reminds today's generation of one of the most brilliant golden pages, the most vivid embodiment of revolutionary heroism and Vietnamese intellectual mettle in the struggle for national liberation.
Historical witnesses participating in the Capital Liberation Day told emotional and proud stories.
Veteran Le Van Tinh, Khuong Mai Ward (Thanh Xuan District) shared: “70 years ago, I was a liaison officer for Captain Nguyen Dinh Phong, Company 238, Capital Regiment, Pioneer Division. We had more than a month to prepare for the day of returning to the Capital.
At 5:00 a.m. on October 10, 1954, my unit marched from Phung village (Dan Phuong district) to Hanoi. Crowds of people stood on both sides of the road waving flags and flowers to welcome us. In the afternoon, we gathered at the Flagpole yard, along with friendly units and people, including the international organization supervising the implementation of the Geneva Agreement, to attend the flag-raising ceremony.
At 3:00 p.m., the City Theater's siren blew a long blast, the majestic National Anthem resounded, and the national flag fluttered atop the Hanoi Flagpole.
The revolutionary veterans were welcomed with deep gratitude by the young generation of Hanoi.
Speaking at the ceremony, Standing Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee Nguyen Thi Tuyen expressed her gratitude to the revolutionary elders, Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, Heroes of the People's Armed Forces, martyrs, veterans, former people's police officers, and former youth volunteers who contributed to the success of the takeover and liberation of Hanoi 70 years ago as well as to the cause of building and defending the socialist Vietnamese Fatherland.
Standing Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee Nguyen Thi Tuyen also informed the delegates about Hanoi's achievements in recent times: "Over the past 70 years, under the leadership of the Central Party Committee and the Government , the capital city of Hanoi has continuously grown, worthy of the trust and love of the people and soldiers nationwide. The capital city of Hanoi is determined to successfully implement the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress and the Resolution of the 17th City Party Congress.
With the spirit of solidarity, innovation, and the participation of the entire political system and all classes of people, Hanoi has achieved quite comprehensive results in all areas; Party building, building a clean, strong political system, operating effectively and efficiently.
In 2023, the total state budget revenue in the city will reach 410.51 trillion VND. In the first 8 months of 2024, the total state budget revenue will reach 343.6 trillion VND, up 18.2% over the same period, the whole city will attract 1.4 billion USD of FDI capital, up 71% over the same period. The cultural and educational sector will receive attention and investment, becoming a new driving force and new resource for the sustainable development of the capital; social security will continue to be ensured; the city will always pay attention to implementing social security policies and caring for people with meritorious services.
The city completed the national target program on building new rural districts one year ahead of schedule.
Standing Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee Nguyen Tuyen also emphasized that on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Liberation Day of the Capital, the Party Committee, government and people of Hanoi always respect, are proud of and grateful to the outstanding children of the Capital who have not been afraid of hardships, sacrifices, fights and directly participated in taking over and liberating the Capital, as well as in the cause of fighting for national independence, unifying the country, protecting the sacred sovereignty of the Fatherland and wish that the Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, Heroes of the Armed Forces, and Revolutionary Veterans live happily and healthily, continue to contribute their intelligence and strength, contributing to building a cultured, civilized and modern Capital.
