Landslide in Phu Huu commune

(CT) - In Phu Huu commune, a landslide occurred at Mr. Nguyen Van Hung's house in Tam Leo canal, Dong Loi A hamlet, on July 20. The landslide was more than 30m long and 6m deep into the widest part of the bank. The landslide caused the collapse of a rural road, causing an estimated loss of more than 100 million VND.

Immediately after the incident, Phu Huu commune mobilized forces and means to deploy temporary remedial measures according to the "4 on-site" motto (on-site command, on-site forces, on-site means, on-site logistics), and at the same time put up signs and barricades at the landslide site to warn people not to go to dangerous landslide areas.

According to preliminary statistics from the functional sector of Can Tho City, since the beginning of the year, on Hau River, Mai Dam Canal, Cai Con Canal, Xeo Choi Canal, ... in the areas of Chau Thanh, Dong Phuoc, Phu Huu communes, there have been nearly 30 landslides and riverbank erosions. Of which, Phu Huu commune alone has had 23 landslides and erosions, with a total loss of nearly 2.5 billion VND.

Since the beginning of the year, nearly 30 landslides have occurred on the Hau River, Mai Dam Canal, Cai Con Canal, Xeo Choi Canal, etc.

Also in the above communes, there are currently about 27 points at risk of landslides and riverbank erosion, with an estimated total length of 74m and about 100 households living right at the landslide risk section. Local authorities have posted warning signs at landslide and riverbank erosion risk points so that people can take precautions.
