Mr. Nguyen Bao Quoc, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, said that in order to prepare for the construction of enrollment plans for the 2026-2027 school year in Ho Chi Minh City, after the merger of Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong , and Ba Ria-Vung Tau, it is expected that the 10th grade enrollment for the 2026-2027 school year in Ho Chi Minh City will combine both admission and entrance exams to suit the reality.
According to Mr. Nguyen Bao Quoc, the entrance examination method at public high schools will continue to include three subjects: Literature, foreign language, and math. The remaining public high schools in some special areas will conduct entrance examinations.
Regarding the specific areas planned to conduct 10th grade admissions, according to Mr. Quoc, there will be more discussions based on many related factors. However, combining admission methods is to maintain stability and create convenience for parents, students and schools after the merger of the 3 localities.
After merging with two localities, Binh Duong and Ba Ria-Vung Tau provinces, the HCM City Department of Education and Training will have the largest scale in the country with nearly 3,500 schools, 2.6 million students and more than 110,000 teachers, in the 2025-2026 school year.
After the merger, 10th grade enrollment in 2026 in Ho Chi Minh City is expected to be conducted by both entrance exam and selection.
Previously, Dr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, had directed many "hot" issues immediately after the merger. In particular, the deputy director in charge of region 2 (formerly Binh Duong) and region 3 (formerly Ba Ria - Vung Tau ) was assigned to direct the Quality Management Department at the 2 facilities to send specialists to receive documents related to the admission of students at the beginning of the school year, review the wishes of parents and support students to transfer schools according to actual needs, ensuring that all students have a place to study.
In September 2025, the Department of General Education is responsible for presiding over and coordinating with the Department of Quality Management to advise and soon have a plan for enrolling 10th grade students in the 2026-2027 school year so that students and teachers of educational institutions know and orient their teaching and learning.
