Unexpectedly fell in love with someone of the same sex
Nguyen Thi Tuyet (born 1996, from Quang Binh ) had a broken marriage and has a daughter and a son.
After her divorce, the single mother realized she had feelings for the same sex. She had dated a few tomboyish young men, but it was not until she met Duong Nguyet Hang (current name Tuan Duong, born in 1996, from Hai Duong ) that she found the “true love” of her life.
After the divorce, Tuyet found a peaceful place with a transgender person.
Unlike Tuyet, Tuan Duong realized his true gender very early. Duong came out to his family and underwent sex reassignment surgery from female to male. Currently, Duong has completed his chest surgery.
The couple met in early 2024, after Duong accidentally watched Tuyet livestream on TikTok. As if there was some strange connection, Duong determined that this was the woman he was looking for.
“At that time, I went to Hai Duong to work, and coincidentally worked near the milk tea shop where Duong often sat. So he ran over to talk and asked for my phone number. My first impression of him was that he was fair-skinned, talkative, and very proactive,” Tuyet said.
During their first meeting, Tuyet did not know that the other person was transgender. However, to her, that was not important. After a broken marriage, she cared more about emotions and harmony than gender.
Duong pursued Tuyet enthusiastically. When Tuyet was sick, Duong bought food to cook and take care of her every day. After a week like that, Tuyet decided to open up and tell Duong about her broken past.
She thought that would make Duong hesitate. But instead, Duong said something that surprised her.
“He said he wanted to come to me, protect me and make up for all the hardships I had suffered. He wanted to take care of our children and build a family with me. After that, we decided to give each other a chance,” Tuyet said.
The couple got married after 3 months of dating.
After a month of knowing each other, the couple introduced themselves to their families. The reaction of both sets of parents made them breathe a sigh of relief. Duong's parents said: "As long as you love each other, work together, and take care of the family, we will be happy."
After the initial shock, Tuyet's parents respected their daughter's decision. To them, her happiness was more important than anything else, all other prejudices and barriers were unimportant.
“We knew each other for a month before telling our parents, a month later we had the engagement ceremony, and a month after that we had the wedding. Our relationship developed quickly, but we both had faith in this relationship,” Tuyet confided.
Organize a lavish wedding
Tuyet and Duong's wedding was held in mid-July 2024. The happy day was celebrated grandly, Duong brought 5 trays of gifts with his parents and the elders of the family to the bride's house to pick up the bride.
Parents on both sides beamed on their children's happy day.
The video of Tuan Duong holding a bouquet of white tulips to pick up his bride attracted 1.2 million views on TikTok. The excited faces and bright smiles of both families moved viewers.
Tuyet admitted that there were times when she felt sad because of people's gossip, but thanks to the support of both families, she quickly overcame the negative emotions.
“I always thought that as long as my parents love me, that’s enough. My husband and I will use time to prove to people that all genders deserve respect and love,” Tuyet said.
After the wedding, Tuyet and her husband lived in a house next to her husband's parents' house. Tuyet sold goods from home, while Duong worked as a technician for a private company.
The couple are having happy days
The couple is enjoying a happy married life. Duong pampers Tuyet very much, always giving her gentle attention. Every time they have a conflict, Duong is always the one to give in and calm Tuyet's anger.
“He doesn’t hang around drinking, after work he comes home to his wife, asks her opinion on everything he does, and especially loves his daughter very much. Before getting married, he said ‘he will give his wife the best things’ and now, he still keeps his word,” Tuyet shared.
Tuyet's relationship with her parents-in-law is also good. They get along well and always think of each other. She was very touched to know that her parents-in-law proactively learn about the psychology and emotions of homosexuals to somewhat understand their children.
“Before getting married, I was worried about having a broken marriage and having children.
My husband's parents said, 'Don't worry, we don't discriminate, we love both of you. We should be happy to have another grandchild, as long as you love each other and take good care of the grandchild.' That statement touched me," Tuyet said.
