Dak Nong Department of Agriculture and Environment estimates that by 2025, the province's durian area will be 13,500 hectares, with an estimated output of 68,000 tons. Areas such as Dak R'lap, Tuy Duc, Dak Mil, and Dak Song are gradually forming large-scale specialized durian growing areas.

Experts say Dak Nong is entering a golden period to develop the durian industry, as opportunities from the export market are increasingly open.
However, experts and management agencies believe that in order for durian to truly become a key crop, bringing sustainable and long-term economic value, the province needs to synchronously deploy many solutions in terms of production organization, application of science and technology, market expansion and quality management.

Mr. Nguyen Van Muoi, Deputy General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, assessed that one of the major barriers today is that the durian cultivation area in Dak Nong is still fragmented, scattered, and intercropped with many other types of plants.
This makes it difficult to issue codes for growing areas and apply synchronous techniques. Therefore, Dak Nong needs to synchronize solutions towards modern and high-quality durian production; reorganize production in a concentrated and professional direction.
The province needs to strongly promote the linkage between farmers - cooperatives - enterprises to form concentrated, large-scale growing areas. This is the premise for building growing area codes, packaging facility codes and meeting export standards.
Mr. Ho Gam, Chairman of Dak Nong Farmers' Association, said that developing a new cooperative model, a cooperative group closely linked from production to consumption will help people be more proactive in negotiating prices and protecting their interests.
This approach also reduces dependence on traders and avoids market risks. "The Farmers' Association will step up propaganda so that farmers understand the economic benefits and develop many crops, including durian," said Mr. Gam.

A fairly clear fact is that the farming level of Dak Nong farmers, especially in terms of planting and caring for durian, is still weak and uneven. Many places still abuse chemical fertilizers and pesticides, causing unstable product quality.
Faced with this reality, Mr. Nguyen The Nghia, an officer of the Dak Nong Department of Agriculture and Environment, shared at a seminar that the unit has proposed solutions.
In particular, the department strengthens training and transfer of techniques for planting, caring, flowering treatment, and pest control for durian according to VietGAP, GlobalGAP and organic standards...
The agricultural sector encourages and prioritizes the development of high-quality, disease-resistant varieties and supports organizations and individuals in building parent trees and parent breeding gardens to produce varieties.

The agricultural sector strengthens supervision of agricultural materials and strictly handles the use of banned substances such as amber and other banned active ingredients in agricultural products exported to China and other markets.
From the producer's perspective, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Trung, owner of Gia Trung durian farm in Gia Nghia city, hopes that the province will soon invest or cooperate with testing laboratories that meet national and international standards.
The province's promotion of building the "Dak Nong durian" brand through building geographical indications, protecting collective trademarks and participating in e-commerce platforms is also a direction that needs to be promoted.
Dak Nong has 15 organizations and individuals certified to produce durian according to VietGAP and organic standards, with a total area of 473 hectares, with an estimated output of about 4,948 tons/year.
