After Russian and American warships, Canadian patrol ship appears in Cuba

A Canadian Navy patrol ship arrived in Havana, Cuba, on June 14, hours after the United States announced a fast-attack submarine had docked at the Guantanamo naval base. A Russian submarine and frigate are also visiting Cuba.
HMCS Margaret Brooke "will conduct a port visit to Havana from June 14-17, in recognition of the longstanding bilateral relationship between Canada and Cuba," according to a statement from the Royal Canadian Navy. Photo: Reuters.

Earlier, the US Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) announced on June 13 that the attack submarine USS Helena had stopped at the Guantanamo naval base in Cuba during a routine visit while transiting the region, according to Politico. Guantanamo Bay is under Cuban sovereignty , but is controlled by the US under a 1903 bilateral treaty that the current Cuban government does not recognize and considers the US presence illegal.
