Sinner is powerless to catch Alcaraz at world number one

Alcaraz is leading the ATP rankings with 11,340 points, 1,340 points more than Sinner. In the race for a ticket to the 2025 ATP Finals in Turin (Italy), Alcaraz has 11,040 points while Sinner only has 8,500 points.

After winning the 2025 US Open in September, Alcaraz regained the world number one position after 65 weeks of Sinner dominating the ATP rankings. The Spanish star equaled the record of legendary Gustavo Kuerten (Brazil) with 43 weeks as world number one.

Sinner said when asked about the chance of ending the year as world number one: “With the current situation, it is impossible. The ATP Finals in Italy would be a big motivation for me, but the current gap in points is too far.”

With this latest statement, Sinner will most likely not participate in the Paris Masters 2025 in France from October 27 to November 2. The Italian star will focus on the ATP Finals 2025 in Italy from November 9 to November 16, with the goal of winning the championship on home soil.

Sinner will participate in the ATP 500 tournament Vienna Open 2025 taking place in Austria, with the opening match against Daniel Altmaier on October 22. Many of the world's top stars will also participate in this ATP 500 tournament, including Alex De Minaur, Musetti, Rublev, Bublik and Daniil Medvedev.

Daniil Medvedev ended his 882-day title drought by winning the 2025 Almaty Open in Kazakhstan on October 19, beating Corentin Moutet 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 in the final. The Russian star last won a tournament at the Rome Masters in May 2023.
