Command Headquarters of the Dien Bien Phu Campaign - Dien Bien Province

The Dien Bien Phu Campaign Command Headquarters was our nerve center during the historic Dien Bien Phu Campaign of 1954. It was the workplace of General Vo Nguyen Giap, Deputy Chief of the General Staff Hoang Van Thai, Head of the Campaign Information Department Hoang Dao Thuy, and others.

The Dien Bien Phu Campaign Command Post historical site is nestled in a primeval forest at the foot of Pu Don Mountain, in Muong Phang commune, Dien Bien district, Dien Bien province. From January 31, 1954 to May 15, 1954, this was the location of the Dien Bien Phu Campaign Command Post – an area guaranteed absolute secrecy and security.

From this Command Post, going up to the highest point, one can observe the entire city of Dien Bien Phu, the Muong Thanh valley, and former French strongholds such as Him Lam Hill, Doc Lap Hill, D1 Hill, C1 Hill, A1 Hill, etc.

During its 105 days of operation, the Dien Bien Phu Campaign Command issued decisive attack directives and orders, shattering the entire impregnable French fortified complex and achieving the Dien Bien Phu Victory, "renowned throughout the world and shaking the earth."

During those historic days of May, the Dien Bien Phu Campaign Command Headquarters became a significant historical site for both domestic and international tourists seeking to learn about history.
