From July 1 next year, the current tax code will no longer be used and will be replaced by a personal identification number.
The Ministry of Finance has just issued Circular 86, regulating tax registration, replacing Circular 105, effective from February 6, 2025.
Accordingly, the tax codes issued by the tax authority to individuals, households, and business households will be used until June 30, 2025. From July 1, 2025, the personal identification number will replace the tax codes of households, business households, individuals, and dependents.
The personal identification number of a Vietnamese citizen is a 12-digit number issued by the Ministry of Public Security . At the same time, the personal identification number of the representative of a household, representative of a business household, or individual business is also used in place of the tax code of that household, business household, or individual business.
If an individual is a Vietnamese citizen who has not been issued a personal identification number, he/she must contact the commune-level police agency to collect information into the national population database and issue a personal identification number before completing tax registration procedures.
For a long time, there have been many cases where a person has multiple tax codes, due to using different identification documents, causing difficulties in tax settlement and refund. With the use of a unique identification code, this situation will be resolved.
For people with a 12-digit citizen identification card, the ID number is the personal identification number. People can look up the identification number on the VNeID application or at dichvucong.dancuquocgia.gov.vn. For children, the identification number will be displayed on the birth certificate. In particular, when accessing the VNeID application, people select the "Residence information" section, which will display the identification numbers of members in the same household.
