Việt NamViệt Nam14/09/2023

The provincial museum has digitized nearly 500 artifacts. The artifacts are provided with specific information about materials, condition, origin... and images in 2D or 3D format. In the photo: Provincial museum staff inspect artifacts in preparation for digitization.

From mid-2023, with just a smartphone or computer, anywhere, culture and history lovers can find out full information and images of each artifact being preserved and displayed at Dien Bien Provincial Museum, without having to come directly. That is the "Artifact Corner" on the Facebook fanpage "Dien Bien Provincial Museum" or on the cultural heritage management software with the link qldsvh.svhttdl.dienbien.gov.vn.

The Provincial Museum's exhibition room currently has an area of over 300m2 , displaying only about 300 out of a total of more than 11,800 collected artifacts. Therefore, the application of cultural heritage management software helps to have more artifacts "displayed" online and widely known. Up to now, the Museum has digitized more than 400 artifacts in 2D format, over 90 3D artifacts and digitized documents for nearly 4,400 artifacts... serving visitors who need to research and learn about history online. In just a few seconds, interested people can view images with specific information about the artifacts: material, origin, description, artifact registration number, quantity, size, condition, In addition, the unit is also receiving, managing, exploiting and using 3 other software related to artifact management including: Provincial Museum artifact digitization software; museum management information system and artifacts management information system...

Ms. Le Thi Lan Anh, Deputy Director of the Provincial Museum, said: “The application of information technology and software in the Museum's operations has made the management and exploitation of artifacts more scientific . In particular, the 2D and 3D digitization of the Museum's artifacts has helped viewers easily access, add new sightseeing experiences and attract more visitors in the current context. The Provincial Museum will continue to digitize existing artifacts to contribute to promoting, introducing and developing the cultural heritage values of ethnic groups in Dien Bien province.”

For the Dien Bien Phu Historical Victory Museum, the exhibition hall is over 1,200m2 wide and displays nearly 500 artifacts. There are still about 3,600 artifacts in 3 storage warehouses. In the past 3 years, the unit has updated information about artifacts on the artifact management software provided by the Department of Cultural Heritage (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism). Entering information from ledgers and artifact records such as: Name, material, quantity, age, summary of artifact content... has helped Museum staff to inventory, preserve, manage, and exploit artifacts according to information fields easily, quickly and accurately. At the same time, it fully and scientifically reflects the databases on each artifact and according to the classification system.

Ms. Vu Thi Tuyet Nga, Director of the Dien Bien Phu Historical Victory Museum, said: “Previously, we had nearly 10 types of books to record and carry out the inventory of artifacts. Since using the software, this has become much simpler. The information fields are designed and stored using technology, making the museum’s inventory activities increasingly convenient and easy.”

Along with managing artifacts, the Dien Bien Phu Historical Victory Museum also promotes the application of information technology in exhibition and propaganda work. Starting with regularly updating images, information, and activities of the Museum on the electronic information page (website), Facebook and other social networking sites... Articles related to the Dien Bien Phu Campaign, stories about heroes participating in the Campaign or artifacts collected and displayed at the Museum... are posted on the information channels and social networks of the unit and the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism , attracting many views and interactions. Thereby widely promoting the image of the Dien Bien Phu Historical Victory Museum to tourists, contributing to attracting visitors inside and outside the province. Since the beginning of the year, the Museum has welcomed more than 100,000 visitors.

Digitizing and upgrading the digital database system of artifacts in a synchronous and strategic manner; introducing and promoting artifacts and museums on many platforms... is the direction of museums in the province. This not only brings historical artifacts and cultural heritage closer to the public, contributing positively to the process of preserving and promoting values, but also becomes a tourism product, attracting tourists, contributing to the socio-economic development of the province.
