With a fortune of 600 million pounds, King Charles is richer than the Queen of England

King Charles III is said to have amassed a fortune worth £600 million (nearly VND17,500 billion), far surpassing the wealth of his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

The British monarch's net worth has been estimated in The Sunday Times Rich List, which will be published next month and will include the top 350 names.

The Sunday Times Rich List is a list of the 1,000 wealthiest people or families residing in the United Kingdom ranked by net worth. The list is updated every April and has been published as a magazine supplement by the British newspaper The Sunday Times since 1989.

If his net worth is confirmed, the King will be richer than the Beckhams, King of Pop Elton John and famous bread brand Warburtons.

King Charles's £600 million fortune also far exceeds Queen Elizabeth's fortune of £370 million.

“One of King Charles’s former aides has described how the King – then the Prince of Wales – painstakingly rebuilt his finances after his £17m divorce from Princess Diana in the mid-1990s,” The Sunday Times reported.

King Charles is said to have saved money through profits from the Duchy of Cornwall estate and made money through housing developments, his many biscuits and beers, as well as his lifestyle choices regarding environmentalism.

The famously frugal monarch said in a 2020 interview with Vogue that he hates throwing away anything, especially clothes. He is often seen wearing suits and suits he bought years ago. And he also hates wasting food.

“That's why I've been talking for so long about the need for a circular economy , rather than a linear economy where you just make, use and throw away products – which is a tragedy, because we're definitely over-exploiting natural resources that are rapidly depleting,” he told Vogue.

Between 2011 and 2022, he is said to have increased profits from the Royal Estates by 42.6% to £25.4m.

More than three decades ago, in 1990, he also founded the organic food brand Duchy Originals to market products grown on his own farm, through the food chains of Harrods, Fortnum & Mason and Waitrose.

After Queen Elizabeth II died at the age of 96 in September last year, King Charles also inherited nearly £22 billion worth of assets belonging to the Crown Estate, plus Buckingham Palace, the Duchy of Lancaster, the Duchy of Cornwall and Kensington Palace.

The Crown Estate alone holds £15.6bn of royal assets, but cannot be sold because it is independent of the monarchy.

“A lot of people get confused about royal finances, thinking that the monarchy owns the Crown Estate and the principalities,” says royal writer Robert Hardman. “Our monarchy is actually not as wealthy as many people think. I certainly don’t think the King is a billionaire.”

It is unclear exactly how much of King Charles' fortune was given to him by his father, Prince Philip, because his will is not public. Queen Elizabeth's sealed will is kept in a safe in London along with more than 30 wills from other senior royals who have died since 1910.

Buckingham Palace declined to comment on the estimate of the King's fortune .
