Soc Trang: 247 students attend Khmer language training class in 2024

The organization of the class is part of the Khmer language training project for cadres, civil servants and public employees in Soc Trang province. In 2024, the course includes 6 classes (4 basic classes, 1 advanced class and 1 translation - interpretation class), with a total of 247 students. Of which, the Provincial Ethnic Committee allocates 1 basic training class with 40 students, the training cost is used from the budget of the National Target Program 1719).

Regarding the curriculum, for the basic and translation-interpretation classes, students will study for 4.5 months, equivalent to 300 lessons. After completing the course, there will be an exam and a certificate will be issued for the basic class and a certificate for the translation-interpretation class.

For the advanced class, students will study for 6.5 months, equivalent to 450 lessons; after completing the course, the Organizing Committee will organize an exam and issue a Certificate and a Certificate of Ethnic Minority Language (Khmer).

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ms. Ho Thi Cam Dao - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairwoman of the People's Council of Soc Trang province, emphasized: Through practical work, one of the difficulties and limitations for most cadres, civil servants and public employees working in areas with a large Khmer population, as well as working in sectors and fields that require direct communication with the Khmer population, is not knowing the Khmer language. This situation significantly affects the quality of leadership and management work, as well as the contact, understanding of thoughts and aspirations, and the work of propagating and mobilizing people in Khmer areas to comply with the Party's guidelines and policies, and the State's policies and laws.

“To overcome the above difficulties and limitations, the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee has directed the development and implementation of the Khmer Language Training Project for cadres, civil servants and public employees of Soc Trang province. After 5 years of implementing the Project, 741/680 students have been trained (achieving 108.9% of the target according to schedule). Khmer language training has gradually become routine; the quality and effectiveness of training have been increasingly improved,” said Ms. Ho Thi Cam Dao.

In order to continue to effectively implement Khmer language training for cadres, civil servants and public employees of Soc Trang province, Ms. Ho Thi Cam Dao suggested that the Steering Committee should focus on directing the implementation and strive to best implement the training plan. Directing innovation in content and teaching and learning methods to achieve higher efficiency, in order to help students easily grasp and improve their understanding and knowledge of the language, writing and customs of the Khmer people.

From there, it is effectively applied in management work, implementing political tasks in the locality, especially improving the ability to propagate and mobilize Khmer people to well implement all policies and guidelines of the Party, policies and laws of the State, contributing to stabilizing political security, social order and safety, and socio-economic development in ethnic minority areas.
