The extremely exciting international dragon boat race is taking place in Hong Kong (China) from June 7-8.
More than 4,500 athletes from 190 teams from 12 countries and regions will compete in 19 events over two days.
This is an annual event to promote culture, sports and attract international tourists to Hong Kong.
The event is expected to add to the beauty of Victoria Harbour with colourful dragon boats gliding in a race between local and international rowers to the beat of traditional drums.
The 500m Victoria Harbour course - the undulating waters of the harbour are said to be much stronger than the athletes' usual training conditions - tested the participants' skills in the harsh conditions.
The Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Race attracted strong teams from all over the world . Although the weather was extremely hot, it did not dampen the vibrant atmosphere at Victoria Harbour.
Sharing with VNA reporters, athlete Ehne Jens from the Bus Dragon team said that his team has participated in dragon boat racing in Hong Kong for 25 years.
This year, the Bus Dragon team had four boats competing, including one female boat, one male boat and two mixed boats. Despite the hot weather, the racing atmosphere was great as we got to interact with other teams.
Meanwhile, athlete Dai-B from the Hong Kong B-cross Dragon Boat team shared that to prepare for this year's race, his team participated in about 10 competitions before this championship. Although the team was established in 2014, this is the first time the B-cross Dragon Boat team has participated in an international dragon boat race in Hong Kong.
"We entered this competition with the hope of testing our skills against other strong teams in Hong Kong and other sailing teams around the world," he said.

The Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival kicked off early on May 31 with the Dragon Boat Race Food Street in Tsim Sha Tsui East, featuring festive food, panda festival-themed shopping and check-in spots, bringing residents and tourists a dragon boat racing festival that combines traditional culture with vibrant carnival.
The organizers have also carefully prepared a series of promotional activities for the people, hoping to encourage more people to establish a healthy and active lifestyle.
Dragon boat racing in Hong Kong has a long history. Previously, on the 5th day of the 5th lunar month (May 31st), 8 districts in Hong Kong held dragon boat races. This is a highly competitive race, with the participation of many international teams.
Dragon boating is not only a sport but also a passion for many foreigners living in Hong Kong.
Dragon boat racers come from 12 countries and regions, including Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan (China), mainland China; Japan; Thailand; Malaysia; Philippines; United Arab Emirates and Canada.
The above teams will compete with top dragon boat racing teams from Egypt and Qatar for the title in Victoria Harbour for the first time.
This year, a category for high school students has been added to encourage young people to come into contact with traditional intangible cultural heritage./.
