This is one of the activities in a series of activities to celebrate the 130th anniversary of the founding of Son La province (October 10, 1895 - October 10, 2025).
Participating in the Thai Xoe art festival this year, the groups will compete in 3 categories, including: Performing 6 ancient Thai Xoe dances according to the Project "Collecting and popularizing some Xoe dances with cultural identities of ethnic groups in Son La province" which have been popularized and taught in communes and wards across the province; competing in Thai ethnic costumes and performing Thai dances.

For the performance of 6 ancient Thai dances, the groups will use the general dance music provided by the Organizing Committee. Write an introduction about the meaning, purpose, and origin of the dances being performed (can be read directly on stage or recorded and overlaid with the dance music).

When performing, teams can bring props suitable for the xoe dance, such as: conical hats, scarves, piêu scarves, fans, musical instruments (mák hinh), ban flowers, đàn tính, khen be...
Thai ethnic costume performance competition with a duration of 5 to 7 minutes, each team sends 3 male contestants, 3 female contestants (not including supporting actors) to create a performance, introducing the typical local ethnic costumes, including 3 contents: Original costumes; costumes in wedding ceremonies or other important ceremonies; innovative costumes (the performance includes men and women and must have an introduction and explanation of the costumes being performed).

For the Thai dance performance competition, each troupe prepares a Thai dance performance, which can be a themed activity dance or a dance with a plot and plot to perform live on stage.

The dance part is edited, choreographed, and staged based on the development of ancient Thai xoe dances and traditional Thai ethnic dances; the music part is dance songs that are currently in circulation or newly composed with the melodies of Thai folk songs and traditional Thai ethnic music.

Music can be pre-recorded or arranged for live band performance with dance. Performances last from 4 to 5 minutes. The number of actors depends on the needs of the teams and the director's and choreographer's ideas.

The festival has contributed to preserving, inheriting and promoting the traditional cultural identity of the Thai people, building and developing new cultural values of ethnic groups in Son La province.
This is also an opportunity for Son La to introduce Thai Xoe art to the masses in the province, friends at home and abroad, strengthening national solidarity, creating a combined strength, serving economic , cultural and social development.
