The film is currently dominating the top spot in 31 countries, including South Korea, Portugal, Peru, Venezuela, Malaysia, Türkiye and Vietnam. The film was directed by Kim Hee Jin and adapted from the novel of the same name.
My Name is Loh Kiwan was filmed mainly overseas and revolves around the life of Loh Kiwan (played by Song Joong Ki), a penniless refugee who leaves North Korea and struggles to become a citizen in Belgium.
Fate brings him to Marie (played by Choi Sung Eun) - a Korean-Belgian sniper. They have a romantic and challenging love story. My Name is Loh Kiwan is considered a transformation in the choice of script and acting of Song Joong Ki.
Despite its good opening performance, the film received mixed reactions from the media and audiences. Many viewers criticized the lack of convincing plot, especially the sudden development of the romantic relationship between the male and female leads in the latter part of the film.
Sharing with the media, Song Joong Ki expressed his joy and pride when My Name is Loh Kiwan had an impressive opening performance. The "father of one" said that he couldn't sleep the night before so he went online to find out what people thought about his new work.

"I saw some YouTubers reviewing the movie, whether positive or negative, I couldn't resist my curiosity," he shared.
Regarding the mixed comments surrounding the film, Song Joong Ki confided: "I didn't expect there to be mixed opinions, but when I listened to the opinions of those who didn't like the film and watched the short clips, I realized that they didn't seem to sympathize with the film.
Some people think it's not suitable for a psychological drama and I understand those criticisms because I once rejected it for the same reason. But when I watch it again, I hope that over time they can empathize with the film, like I did."
He added: "In the event that they still can't empathize even after watching it several times, that's beyond my control, like me giving up on my child.
Personally, I like to watch a movie like this many times. So I hope the work is not like a disposable paper cup but something that will last a long time."
Song Joong Ki explained that he had intended to refuse the film because of the emotional scenes in the film. However, in the end, he still accepted the role.

The Korean movie star said: "A movie is not a disposable cup that you throw away after watching it once. Even if you don't find the movie good, or don't sympathize with the actors in the movie, you can still change your mind in the future.
I hope viewers have a good view of the film. If opinions don't change even after time has passed, that's something I can't control. It's not something I can force on anyone. I like to hear other people's opinions, good or bad, to learn."
Song Joong Ki (born 1985) is currently one of the highest paid actors in Korea. He has appeared in many famous works such as Sungkyunkwan Scandal, Descendants of the Sun, Asadal Chronicles, Hell Island, Vincenzo...
Thanks to his good income in the film industry, being the face of advertising for brands, and real estate business, Song Joong Ki currently owns an estimated fortune of nearly 24 million USD, according to Economic Times.
