This investment round is led by UntroD Capital Asia (Japan), with strategic support from Antler - one of Alternō's first and largest investors.
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) also participated in the round, reflecting growing global investor confidence in scalable decarbonization solutions.
Alternō provides energy storage solutions through sand batteries - which have been changing the way heat is used in industry in Vietnam and the Asia region.
Alternō's sand battery technology uses a low-cost, readily available material called sand to store thermal energy up to 600 degrees Celsius.
The start-up's proprietary invention minimizes heat loss and produces absolutely zero emissions during operation, in line with global climate standards and carbon neutrality goals.
Alternõ representatives said the new investment will help expand production and accelerate the development of Alternō E - a next-generation battery system capable of storing electricity, completing the company's energy storage solution suite.
Ho Viet Hai - co-founder and CEO - shared: "This round of funding is an important milestone for Alternō.
With ADB and UntroD, we are accelerating our efforts to bring affordable, large-scale carbon reduction solutions to the industrial sector. This is not just a battery, but a revolution in the way we generate and use industrial heat, starting with... sand.”
Reduce 100 million tons of CO₂ emissions per year
Established in 2023, Alternō recognized the strong demand in Southeast Asia for clean, stable and economical thermal energy.
Starting with providing sand battery solutions for industrial drying lines and agricultural processing plants in Vietnam, Alternō's sand batteries have proven effective in reducing dependence on fossil fuels, optimizing operating costs, and improving product quality.
So far, Alternō has been deploying sand batteries at large domestic and foreign corporations, such as PepsiCo , Mondelez and many companies and cooperatives across Vietnam. The company has now entered the international market, and the first destinations are Japan and the Philippines.
By 2030, Alternō aims to contribute to reducing CO₂ emissions by 100 million tons per year thereafter. The company's long-term vision is to become an integrated clean energy platform - where heat, electricity and artificial intelligence are integrated into a single, intelligent and cost-effective system.
